Preseason Power Rankings – Softball

The 2021 season begins today for many local diamond teams! With that in mind, here are our official Power Rankings (Preseason) prior to the first pitch being thrown.

#1 » WHITE COUNTY

2020 Record: 12-11; State Rnd 1
Last Ranking In 2020: #8

The Lady Warriors return just about every single playmaker from last year, and coach Drew Owens states this is the most athletic team he’s ever had. Look for Cree Cantrell, Liana O’Kelly, Reagan Dunagan, Katelyn Boman, and others to make a run at the 7-AAA title and make a huge run in the state playoffs. SEASON PREVIEW

#2 » JEFFERSON

2020 Record: 22-9; Sweet 16
Last Ranking In 2020: #2

The Lady Dragons do move on from mainstays Livi Blackstock, Abby Beatty, and Mac Turner. No denying there are some big holes to fill. But Ravyn Saxon, Camoreena Hart, Taylor Spivey, Maleia Truelove, and Avery Hayes will pick up the slack for a program that has the look of ‘Region Champions’ and a deep playoff team. SEASON PREVIEW

#3 » COMMERCE

2020 Record: 23-13-1; State Runner-Up; Region 8-A Champions
Last Ranking In 2020: #3

The Lady Tigers lost several playmakers including Rachel Morgan, Maggie Mullis, Gabbie Deaton, Emma Davis, and Landry Kate Martin. Returning to hopefully fill some of those voids include Carson Hobbs, the reigning Region Player of the Year, and Grace Hobbs and Anna Taylor among others. Newcomers will HAVE to step up to repeat the level of success Commerce has had the past two seasons. SEASON PREVIEW

#4 » UNION COUNTY

2020 Record: 12-10; State Rnd 1
Last Ranking In 2020: #5

The Lady Panthers do move on from Trinity Queen and Hannah Patton, but the team is senior-heavy this year with a wealth of talent and experience. Younger players will push the others to up their game. This team should be in the region title hunt all season. SEASON PREVIEW

#5 » BANKS COUNTY

2020 Record: 17-15; Elite 8; Region 8-AA Champions
Last Ranking In 2020: #4

So Madi Cronic is gone. But she was the only one from last season who moved on. This group is elite with Jacy Ayers, Kylee Brooks, Lindsey Crawford, Jodie Hood, Alexus Humphries, Shelby Speed, Marysa Rylee, and Carley Segars leading the charge. The expectation is as high as it ever was. Should be battling for a region championship and yet another Columbus run. SEASON PREVIEW

#6 » LUMPKIN COUNTY

2020 Record: 19-10; Sweet 16
Last Ranking In 2020: #1

The Lady Indians bring back big-time playmakers in Emmie Graham and Amma Johnson as they seek to repeat or better last season’s Sweet 16 run. SEASON PREVIEW

#7 » HABERSHAM CENTRAL

2020 Record: 16-14; State Rnd 1
Last Ranking In 2020: #7

The Lady Raiders lost some key members of last year’s playoff team, including PresLee Hix, Kyla Quiles, Kilee Thomas, and Brayden Staton. However, with Taylor/Hailey Wade, Bailey Barfield, Kelsey Banks, and Emma Forrester back in the mold for this year, Habersham should be in the playoff picture even in a tough region. SEASON PREVIEW

#8 » STEPHENS COUNTY

2020 Record: 12-18; State Rnd 1
Last Ranking In 2020: #6

The Lady Indians are hurt by losing a Jasmine Lowery type of talent. But it helps bringing back the region Player of the Year in Laney McGee. The question will be who steps up around her to get this team back to the playoffs. SEASON PREVIEW

#9 » RABUN COUNTY

2020 Record: 8-15; State Rnd 1
Last Ranking In 2020: #9

The Lady Wildcats should be in the playoff mix once again, but the W-L record should also be more impressive. With nearly every key player back, including Birdie Jordan, Ayahna Jenkins, Danielle Loggins, and Mary Lovell, Rabun County has a shot to do something special in 8-AA. SEASON PREVIEW

#10 » DAWSON COUNTY

2020 Record: 6-12
Last Ranking In 2020: #10

The Lady Tigers move on from Bella Henson as well as long-time coach Jimmy Pruett. Justin Rickett takes over, and has a good amount of players that he will rely on, starting with Rylie Erickson and Olivia Martinez. There are several other key players back, and the girls will look to get off to a quick start. SEASON PREVIEW

#11 » TOWNS COUNTY

2020 Record: 8-12
Last Ranking In 2020: #11

The Lady Indians departed from a senior class of 8 standouts. There is work to be done, as they will reportedly be starting 6 underclassmen. The only way from here is up for this group. SEASON PREVIEW
