Jefferson made quick work of visiting Oconee County (2-3) on Friday night at Memorial Stadium, as the Dragons (3-2) secured a second straight shutout in a 20-0 final. It marked the halfway point of the season ahead of a well-earned BYE week prior to starting region play. 

After each team had empty opening drives, Austen Kitchings had a huge punt return to get the Dragons to the 12 yard line. Boone Horn connected on a 7-yd slant with Nick Emerson for a diving TD and the early 7-0 lead. 

Despite big hookups from Horn to Carter Perrin, and from Oconee’s Brady Fountain to Mason Hall, the first quarter remained at 7-0. Max Brown had a breakaway touchdown run midway into the second but the ball was punched free and recovered in the end zone by Reece McCart of the Warriors.

Brown would avenge the miscue with a 15-yd TD run after bouncing off would-be tacklers with 1:41 left in the half, giving Jefferson a comfy 13-0 lead. 

A wildly-fast third quarter that consisted of just three total drives bled out the clock into the fourth. Late in the contest, Horn hit a streaking Perrin for a 57-yd TD to put the game on ice with a 20-0 lead in the closing minutes. 

Oconee had one last desperate drive, but Zacai Elder turned it away with an interception in the end zone. 

Horn accounted for two touchdowns, and the Dragons pitched back-to-back shutouts ahead of the region-opener at Flowery Branch in two weeks.
