Dooley, Speed claim Athlete of the Week awards


The BLITZ Fan Vote for Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Week was Amayah Dooley (Habersham Central) after taking 26,405 of the 62,909 total votes. BLITZ then named Shelby Speed (Banks County) as Co-POW.
AMAYAH DOOLEY – HABERSHAM CENTRAL

Junior Amayah Dooley had a standout performance last week for the Lady Raiders. The Habersham athlete put up 2 1st-place finishes in the Long Jump, including a best of 15-10. She won the Triple Jump twice as well, putting up a 34-07 mark. These came in the Bo James Invitational and the Madison County meet. This is Dooley’s second POW award, with the other coming this year in volleyball.

SHELBY SPEED – BANKS COUNTY

Kennesaw State signee and Banks County standout Shelby Speed is hoping for her best season yet. The former 2021 State Champion in Discus threw a 128-0 last week at North Oconee, giving her an easy 1st-place. She also came in first in Shot Put with a 38-10. Her PRs for both are 39-7 in Shot Put set a couple of weeks ago, and a 133-5 at Discus last year to claim a region title. Speed has a State Title in Discus in 2021 and a Runner-Up finish in 2022, and was the Region Champion in both 2021 and 2022. She also won a region title in 2022 in Shot Put, and was the Region RU in 2021, while also that year placing 11th at state in that event. This is Speed’s third career POW award.
