Lady Indians fall to undefeated Hebron in title game [VIDEO]

Hebron Christian led wire-to-wire in the GHSA Class 3A State Championship, taking a 68-36 win over #2-ranked and defending champs Lumpkin County. The Lady Indians (26-5) couldn’t get a string of buckets against #1 Hebron Christian (32-0) and the Lady Lions’ smothering defense.

Lumpkin County shot just 23% from the field and only 17% on 3-pointers, while Hebron shot 53% overall and 44% from long range. The game remained close initially, as Lumpkin County trailed 15-7 after the first quarter. Averie Jones got the first Lady Indians bucket nearly midway through the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Jones got hot, connecting on multiple shots including a pair of 3-pointers to keep the deficit in single-digits. Hebron Christian though still outpaced Lumpkin in the quarter and secured a comfortable 30-19 halftime lead.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Lions wouldn’t give much room for Lumpkin to operate, and a 16-6 run in the third put the game out of reach with a 46-25 lead heading into the final quarter.

Hebron piled on 22 points in the final period, as Lumpkin dropped in 11 more to close the book on the scoring. Hebron Christian got 16 points from both Kerra Butler and Aubrey Beckham, as well as 12 from Amiya Porter and 11 from Nicky Daniel. Butler also had a double-double adding 13 rebounds.

Jones led all scorers with a game-high 20 points, as Mary Mullinax had 5 (and 12 rebounds), Kate Jackson and Ciera Brooks both with 4, and Lexi Pierce 3. For Mullinax, Jackson, and Pierce, it marked the final game of their high school career.
