Diamond Preview: White County Warriors

The 2022 Warriors put up 16 wins and narrowly missed making the playoffs. That came despite a team that had solid talent and was ranked #6 in the state at one point. Living in the ever-tough Region 7-AAA, White County finished just shy of the postseason. That certainly fuels the engine that runs the 2023 season.

HEAD COACH: Jim Waits (6th Season)
2022 RECORD: 16-12; #6 State Ranking
RETURNING STARTERS: 6
KEY DEPARTURES: Dylan Sargent, Jake Johnson
KEY PLAYERS: Nate Bray, Mark Daniels, Devon Norton, Ryan Fowler, Landon Roberts, Kyler Mayo, Landon Roberts, Mason Gee
STRENGTHS: “Team speed, and hitting,” states Waits.

The Warriors will miss the contributions that came from Jake Johnson (.383 AVG, 29 RBI; 3-0, 3.70 ERA) and Dylan Sargent (.330, 1 HR, 17 RBI). However, Nate Bray will lead a group of 6 returning starters. Bray hit .361 last season with 4 HR and 28 RBI with a .427 OBP. Mark Daniels (.359, 21 RBI; 4-2, 2.35 ERA) is a solid Player of the Year candidate as a 2-way prospect. Others will be given a chance to have a breakout season for White County.

“This team expects to compete for a playoff spot in the tough Region 7-AAA,” adds Waits.
