Diamond Preview: Lumpkin County Indians

Lumpkin County has a new leader of the program in Ryan Zaideman. The Indians no doubt will look to get closer to the playoffs, as the team hasn’t advanced since 2015. Last season’s 10 wins marked the first double-digit win total since the 2019 campaign.

HEAD COACH: Ryan Zaideman (1st Season)
2022 RECORD: 10-20; No Playoffs
RETURNING STARTERS: 5
KEY DEPARTURES: Will Mincey, Scooter Ligon
KEY PLAYERS: Alejandro Narvaez, Harper Davenport, Hayden Gilbert
STRENGTHS: “Experience with a lot of our younger players from last year back,” says Zaideman.

Will Mincey’s bat is going to be missed (.314 AVG, 24 RBI). Cooper Scott is a returning player who hit .297 with 1 HR and drove in 10 runs, but players like Harper Davenport, Alejandro Narvaez, and Hayden Gilbert will be crucial to the team’s success. While the ultimate goal for this team is to get back into playoff contention, it all starts with the simple goal laid out by Zaideman.

“To play hard and to be consistent,” he says. If the Indians do that, the rest will take care of itself.
