Pitch Preview: Jefferson Dragons

The Dragons are set to begin a new era under new coach Ezra Crumley. He takes over for Casey Colquitt, who guided the program to a pair of Final 4s (2019 and 2021) and even the Sweet 16 last year. Crumley will bring in a fresh perspective, but have the same high expectations.

HEAD COACH: Ezra Crumley (1st Season)
2022 RECORD: 11-5-2; 4A State Sweet 16; #3 State Ranking
RETURNING STARTERS: 5
KEY DEPARTURES: Cort McCormack, Brandon Newman
KEY PLAYERS: SR CM Mason Fifer, SR Chase Johnson, SR Riley Christopher, SR Zander Patterson, SR Grayson Huff, SR Brady Ellis, SR Dylan Ellis
STRENGTHS: “Experienced senior class,” states Crumley. “Solid leadership. We will have multiple underclassmen that will contribute to the team and bring exciting play to our varsity. Very motivated and coachable group who want to build on past successes, while writing their own finish to their time here at JHS.”

Cort McCormack (9 G, 2 A) and Brandon Newman (3 G, 2 A) will be sorely missed, but bringing back Mason Fifer and his great experience is a big plus. There is a great senior class in place with talent and experience, and the goals and ambitions are as high as they’ve ever been.

“We expect to work extremely hard against each opponent,” adds Crumley. “Be a respectable team, as well as earn the respect from our opponents. We certainly want to achieve the ultimate goal of a championship, but will keep our eyes on the process in which it takes to get to that point. I am proud of this group thus far in the offseason and their buy in to a new head coach and new standards.”
