Habersham Central led nearly the entire game until a late run in the fourth by the Lady Warriors led to a 40-35 White County win Friday night in Mt. Airy. #6-ranked White County (6-1) trailed by 10 points heading into the final period, but used a big run to earn the comeback victory over the Lady Raiders (1-2).

The Lady Raiders used a 6-0 run to open the game, and Gabby Santiago had 5 points in the quarter. White County got a boost from Kylie Watkins on a 3-point play and a tri-fecta by Naomi Roberts. Habersham held an 11-8 lead going into the second. Hab Central outscored White County 12-4 in the second stanza, which was highlighted by Jazky Bantaum’s triple. The Lady Raiders were up by a comfortable margin at 23-12 heading into the break.
In the third, Bantaum connected on another shot from deep, advancing the lead to 26-13 and doubling up the Lady Warriors. That’s when White County began to make a comeback attempt, going on an 8-2 to pull with 7 points. A Habersham 3-point play however kept it at a 10-point padding going into the final quarter.
The Lady Warriors opened the fourth with a 7-0 impressive run, getting within 3 points. After a Habersham bucket, Roberts hit a tray for White County to make it a 33-31 Habersham lead. Moments later, it was Claire Beckman who came up with a go-ahead and eventual game-winning basket inside the paint for the lead at the 1:30 mark. Watkins connected on a bucket as well as part of a rapid sequence that put White County up 38-33 with 26 seconds to go. It was part of a 19-2 run to complete the comeback.
Roberts led all scorers with 15 points, with 10 in the second half and a pair of 3-pointers. Mya Yeh had 8 points, Chandler Weaver had 7, Watkins 6, and two apiece for Beckman and Aaliyah Anderson. Hab Central was led by Santiago with 9 points, and followed closely by Kyia Barrett’s 8 points. Sataria Cantrell had 6, as did Bantaum. #22 (unlisted on roster) scored 5, and Emyrie Combs had one point. White County is now 6-1 overall with 2 wins over Habersham Central, who is now 1-2 overall.
