It was a big night on Thursday, as both Jefferson’s and Commerce’s girls clinched state championship berths with wins. Both will play next Tuesday in the State Championship games at Mercer.

#2 Jefferson Lady Dragons (14-3-1) 5, #1 NW Whitfield (15-4) 0

The Lady Dragons continued their historic season, reaching the state title game to be held next Thursday against Marist. Previews and predictions will come later for that one. But for now, enjoy that Jefferson got here, and did so with a dominant 5-0 win over NW Whitfield. It’s been nothing short of a fantastic playoff run, combined with ample offense and lock-down defense.

#2 Commerce Lady Tigers (21-1) 5, #3 Towns County Lady Indians (14-5-1) 1

The Lady Tigers took down their local rivals 5-1 in what was their third meeting this season. Commerce has won all three, and got the home field in the semis. So it wasn’t a huge surprise, but nonetheless, the Lady Tigers are in the title game for the first time, and dare we say the first of many. Next up is a matchup with Social Circle, also a region foe, whom Commerce lost their only game of the season to. That’s at Mercer next Tuesday.
