Commerce phenom Tolbert eclipses 100 career goals
Very few soccer players notch 50 goals in a career, let alone 100. Locally, in the BLITZ-era (2009-present), we’ve seen just 3 girls soccer players sniff that. Lauren Barnes of Rabun County (’21) had 107, and Madison Yost of Union County (19) had 103. Hope Kenney of Lumpkin (’20) had 96, and lost over half her senior season due to COVID. A couple others we’ve covered have reached the 80 mark, but as of Wednesday night, Commerce sophomore Ivy Tolbert joins Barnes and Yost of local players to hit the century mark.
The midfielder and All-State talent is different though – she’s just a sophomore, and has reached the 100 mark just 7 games into the season. She recently had an 11-goal game, which is a new school record (and maybe a state record??).
Tolbert eclipsed 100 in a stellar 6-2 win over #3-ranked Armuchee. It was part of a 4-goal effort for her, as she becomes Commerce’s first player to notch 100 goals. Her final goal of the game gave her 101 and counting.
