Yeh’s monster third quarter drives Warriors to win over Hab [VIDEO]

Jadon Yeh got hot for the Warriors, as the junior star scored 14 in the third to help White County (6-5; 3-1 in 7-AAA) overcome a 6-point halftime deficit at home on Tuesday. The trio of Yeh, Silas Mulligan, and Kenny Simpson combined for 51 points to lead White County to a 70-57 win over visiting Habersham Central (6-4; 1-0 in 8-AAAAAA).

While the Warriors won the contest, there was no shortage of highlights from the Raiders, as their own star trio of Malachi Dooley, Mekhi Mawdesley, and Bryce Pittman tallied 43 points combined. Pittman threw down a pair of dunks, Mawdesley scored his 1,000th point, and Cole Gary also slammed one home for Habersham.

Habersham led 14-13 at the end of the first, and stretched it to a 30-24 halftime lead behind Pittman’s 9 first-half points. Mawdesley had 8 in the first half. Pittman dunked early in the first, then Mawdesley got his 1,000th career point on a free throw in the second quarter. Shortly after, Pittman threw down another breakaway slam and Hab held a 24-21 lead. White County was buoyed by Simpson’s 9 first-half points, including a pair of long 3-pointers.

Coming out of the break, Dooley notched a 3-point play to appear to give Habersham a big advantage. However, Yeh drilled a triple to kick off his 14-point third quarter. In what proved to be a momentum-grabbing play, Yeh pulled off a third-chance bucket with a 3-point play. He missed twice but got his rebound each time before powering up for the basket and the foul. That pulled the Warriors back withing 42-40. He then tied the game at 44 apiece, and took the lead at 46-44 just ahead of the buzzer.

Habersham reclaimed the lead early in the fourth with back-to-back Mawdesley baskets and a dunk by Gary. However, the inbound pass was quickly routed to Tavi Simmons for a 3-pointer to make it 50-49 in favor of Hab Central. The lead changed hands a couple more times before Mulligan’s go-ahead, eventual game-winning 3-pointer that put White County up 54-52 with under 3 minutes to go.

Though Mawdesley would get a late tray to pull within 3, Yeh closed it out with another 3-point play, and knocked down several free throws to secure the 70-57 win.

Yeh led all scorers with 24 points, while Mulligan (14) and Simpson (13), as well as Chad West (8) heavily contributed. Dawson Bailey had 5 points and Simmons 4 for the Warriors. Mawdesley led the Raiders with 17 points, followed closely by Dooley’s 15 and Pittman’s 11. Gary closed shop with 7 points, Brannon Gaines had 5, and Kaden Hooks had 2 for Hab Central.
