BREAKING: Union volleyball coach Chapman resigns

Union County volleyball coach Anna Chapman has resigned as of Monday. It is a shocking bit of news, as the Lady Panthers’ coach has led the program to unforeseen heights the last 2 seasons.

For a program that is only 5 years old, Chapman was the third head coach since 2017. Though the team was ranked #8 in its 2019 Elite 8 run in which it won 15 games, it wasn’t until Chapman arrived that the program took it to another level.

In 2020 and 2021, Chapman’s teams won a pair of area titles, and didn’t drop a single area match. Both seasons saw Union go to the Final Four. With only one senior graduating from this year’s team, the team is in a great position to battle for a state title in 2022. She was 37-17 in 2 seasons at Union.

It’s been a crazy last couple of weeks, as several local coaches have resigned. That list includes Lumpkin football coach Caleb Sorrells, Lumpkin girls basketball coach David Dowse (who returned after resigning), and White County football coach Tim Cokely.
