Week Nine Power Rankings

With a lighter schedule in Week 9, there produced no movement in our BLITZ Power Rankings. If you need a refresher though, take a look at where they all line up.

#1 » JEFFERSON

RECORD: 7-0
LAST GAME:
BYE
NEXT GAME: @ Chestatee
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1

The Dragons got a week to get on the mend. After finally getting Jordan Perry back a few weeks ago, they’ve been without 5-star Malaki Starks, and now others such as Sammy Brown are a little banged up. The bye week hopefully helped, and the return to the gridiron won’t be a tough one against Chestatee. It’s hopefully getting close to getting the full team ready for the stretch run.

#2 » RABUN COUNTY

RECORD: 7-1
LAST GAME:
W 63-0 @ Banks County
NEXT GAME: vs Elbert County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2

The Wildcats cruised to an expected 63-0 win over Banks County, as Gunner Stockton and Jaden Gibson put up their best numbers in their careers. The competition ramps up a bit against Elbert County at home, though Rabun shouldn’t have too much trouble with the Blue Devils.

#3 » STEPHENS COUNTY

RECORD: 6-1
LAST GAME:
BYE
NEXT GAME: @ #2 Hart County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3

The BYE week couldn’t have come at a better time for Stephens County. The Indians lost Ben Stowe in the midst of their last win over Franklin, but he should be good to go. They’ll need him to be at his best when taking on powerhouse Hart County.

#4 » COMMERCE

RECORD: 5-2
LAST GAME:
W 30-0 vs Franklin County
NEXT GAME: vs Social Circle
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4

It’s 4 straight wins for the Tigers, as they are back to being what we imagined from the jump. Commerce got a 30-0 win over Franklin in a rare non-region game in the middle of the region part of the schedule. That was a make-up with a lost game from earlier in the season, and now the attention is back to winning that next region game when hosting Social Circle next week.

#5 » DAWSON COUNTY

RECORD: 4-3
LAST GAME:
W 51-0 vs West Hall
NEXT GAME: @ #7 Cherokee Bluff
PREVIOUS RANKING: #5

Dawson County has reeled off 4 straight wins as well, making 2 Tigers teams that are doing great things. A 51-0 win marks the 3rd 50-point output this season for Dawson. They can score some points. They’ll need that offense clicking on all cylinders in their mammoth game at Cherokee Bluff that very well could determine the region title.

#6 » TOWNS COUNTY

RECORD: 4-3
LAST GAME:
BYE
NEXT GAME: vs Greene County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6

The Indians look to snap a 2-game losing skid when hosting Greene County. Towns got a BYE week to rest up and prepare for this one, so hopefully that extra time pays dividends in the way of a victory.

#7 » HABERSHAM CENTRAL

RECORD: 2-6
LAST GAME:
L 10-28 @ Lanier
NEXT GAME: @ Central Gwinnett
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7

The Raiders took another one in the loss column and are now clearly out of the playoff picture. Still, wins in the last 2 games would go a long way to build momentum toward next season.

#8 » WHITE COUNTY

RECORD: 2-5
LAST GAME:
BYE
NEXT GAME: @ Lumpkin County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8

The Warriors got a BYE week coming off a big win over West Hall. Next up is Lumpkin, and at this point every game is a must win for a team with playoff aspirations. That means a 1-0 mentality has to be in the forefront for White County as they travel the Burial Grounds.

#9 » UNION COUNTY

RECORD: 2-5
LAST GAME:
L 29-52 @ Elbert County
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9

Union took a tough loss at the Granite Bowl, snapping their 2-game win streak. The Panthers get a BYE to prep for #1-ranked, archrivals Rabun County.

#10 » LUMPKIN COUNTY

RECORD: 2-5
LAST GAME:
L 8-55 @ #7 Cherokee Bluff
NEXT GAME: vs White County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10

The Indians look to put their loss to Cherokee Bluff in the rearview mirror, and are set to host White County in a key region matchup.

#11 » BANKS COUNTY

RECORD: 1-6
LAST GAME:
L 0-63 vs #1 Rabun County
NEXT GAME: @ Riverside
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11

Banks County showed some positives against Rabun County, mostly in the passing abilities of Bowen Roberts and the pass-catching of Caine Griffith. The Leopards have a desperate need for a victory against Riverside if they want to be one of the 4 playoff teams from 8-AA.
