Week Three Power Rankings

Week three is now in the books, which means (this is going to sound crazy) we are at 1/4 of the season in the bag.

#1 » JEFFERSON

RECORD: 3-0
LAST GAME:
W 45-7 vs Southside (SC)
NEXT GAME: @ Mountain View
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1

Jefferson scored 42 points in the first quarter against Southside, and once again Sammy Brown and Malaki Starks are showing why they are worthy of the hype. Next up is Mountain View, which again should be a game that is in hand before the second quarter is over.

#2 » RABUN COUNTY

RECORD: 1-1
LAST GAME:
Canceled @ #1 Eagles Landing Christian
NEXT GAME: @ Murphy (NC)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2

Not a great situation for the Cats, who had to cancel their game at #1 Eagles Landing Christian. They will instead utilize last week as a bye week, and will look to find another opponent on one of the original byes. Also, Walahalla (SC) had to cancel this coming week’s game, so Rabun quickly found Murphy (NC) as a road game to make up for it. Murphy is the defending state champs in NC, so this is a great test for the Cats.

#3 » STEPHENS COUNTY

RECORD: 3-0
LAST GAME:
W 29-12 vs Jackson County
NEXT GAME: @ Madison County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3

Stephens County continues to impress, handling Jackson County pretty well. Next up is a Madison County team, and this should be a win for the Indians to move to 4-0.

#4 » HABERSHAM CENTRAL

RECORD: 1-1
LAST GAME:
W 27-7 vs Apalachee
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7

It’s the first BYE week for Hab Central, and the Raiders have to be feeling momentum with all facets of the game playing well against Apalachee in the home opener. Carson Parker is coming into his own early on as the first non-senior QB for Habersham in recent memory (Cole Wilbanks, circa 2015). So too is Zeke Whittington (3 TD catches).

#5 » WHITE COUNTY

RECORD: 1-2
LAST GAME:
W 20-7 @ Pickens
NEXT GAME: vs Habersham Central
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6

The Warriors made a big change at QB, switching Billy Carder (SR) for Tripp Nix (FR), and that helped White County get that first win. Silas Mulligan continues to have an awesome season, and hopefully this win is a trend for White Conty.

#6 » COMMERCE

RECORD: 1-1
LAST GAME:
Canceled vs #5 Athens Academy
NEXT GAME: @ Elbert County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4

Commerce had to can its game against #5 Athens Academy, and now turn to Elbert County for Week 4. The Tigers need to find a way to score more points, and hopefully find more identity this week.

#7 » TOWNS COUNTY

RECORD: 1-1
LAST GAME:
BYE
NEXT GAME: @ Baconton Charter
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8

Towns County got a chance to regroup before taking on Baconton Charter. The Indians are hoping to grab a couple of more wins prior to region play.

#8 » DAWSON COUNTY

RECORD: 0-3
LAST GAME:
L 17-42 @ South Forsyth
NEXT GAME: vs Northview
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7

The Tigers continue to struggle scoring points, and go to 0-3. That said, it’s been a tough non-region slate, so the W-L record won’t matter when region play starts. Still hard to really grasp what this team is all about.

#9 » UNION COUNTY

RECORD: 0-2
LAST GAME:
L 28-41 @ Chestatee
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10

The Panthers’ loss to Chestatee isn’t easy to take. The War Eagles had not won a game since 2019. Union was actually driving in the final moments with a chance to tie it up, but a pick six makes the score look a little worse. The Panthers have time to think about this one, but must work on some things before their next game at Pickens.

#10 » BANKS COUNTY

RECORD: 0-2
LAST GAME:
L 0-28 @ East Jackson
NEXT GAME: vs Lumpkin County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9

The Leopards have yet to score a single point this season. Lumpkin comes to town, which means one of those two teams will get their first win of the season.

#11 » LUMPKIN COUNTY

RECORD: 0-2
LAST GAME:
BYE
NEXT GAME: @ Banks County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11

After a bye week, the Indians look for a great opportunity to try and get in the win column when going to Banks in Week 4.
