Stephens Bests White County in Season Opener
CHAZ MULLIS – The Indians took down the Warriors 34-20 in a hard fought season opener on Friday night. Great performances by White County’s Darius Cannon and a slew of Stephens County’s offensive line made this a great first matchup.
After a scoreless first quarter, White County’s Colton Turner brought in the first score of the game with an interception TD around the 8 minute mark, but Stephens’ Armand Cunningham tied up the game with 3:36 left in the second.
The Warriors’ Darius Cannon responded with an 80 yard kick return TD shortly after, only for Cam’ron Lacy to reciprocate with an 85 yard return TD of his own, placing the Indians in the lead at a narrow 14-13.
A 28 yard pass to Cannon from Billy Carder put the Warriors back in the lead at the end of the 1st half with 14-20.
The second half was all about Stephens County, with QB Ben Stowe running in a 5-yard TD around the start of the 3rd. A solid pass to Corey Richie gave the Indians a 16-yard TD, ending the 3rd favoring Stephens at 27-20.
Stephens landed a final TD around the 7 minute mark of the 4th, ending the game at 34-20; a solid opening victory for Stephens County.
