Baseball Power Rankings – End of Regular Season

The regular season is a wrap following Friday’s games. Here are the final Power Rankings!

#1 JEFFERSON

PREVIOUS: #1
RECORD: 21-8 (15-3 in 8-AAAA)

The Dragons have been as high-ranked as #4 in the state, and secured the Region Runner-Up spot and a home playoff game. Beating Commerce two times has Jefferson here.

#2 COMMERCE

PREVIOUS: #2
RECORD: 20-10 (15-3 in 8-A Public)

The Tigers have had a monster season, and have been ranked as high as #5 in the state. Commerce has beaten Banks to put them here (despite losing to them once as well), while losing twice to Jefferson. Commerce finished as Region 8-A Public Champs, thus giving them our barely nod over Banks for now.

#3 BANKS COUNTY

PREVIOUS: #3
RECORD: 19-9 (10-2 in 8-AA)

The Leopards have been ranked as high as #2 in the state polls, and have lost locally only to Commerce, and swept 3-game sets with Union and Rabun. Banks finished as Region 8-AA Runner-Up. The split with Commerce (winning the finale) has them here.

#4 WHITE COUNTY

PREVIOUS: #4
RECORD: 19-10 (12-6 in 7-AAA)

The Warriors finished as Region 7-AAA third place, and have beaten the likes of Lumpkin and Dawson 3 times each and Union twice. A slip-up to Rabun isn’t enough to put them any further down than this.

#5 HABERSHAM CENTRAL

PREVIOUS: #6
RECORD: 11-19 (8-9 in 8-AAAAAA)

The Raiders endured a tough stretch and secured a 4th seed from 8-AAAAAA to make the playoffs. A local win over Dawson and loss to Stephens has Hab here.

#6 TALLULAH FALLS

PREVIOUS: #8
RECORD: 13-12 (7-8 in 8-A Private)

The Indians wrapped up a first-ever state playoff bid with a 4th place finish in 8-A Private. TFS had some quality wins, one coming over a ranked opponent.

#7 UNION COUNTY

PREVIOUS: #12
RECORD: 12-17 (5-7 in 8-AA)

Union came alive late in region play to actually secure a 3-seed from 8-AA and playoff bid. Union won 2 over Rabun and one over Towns and Lumpkin. Losses this season include 3 to Banks, 2 to Dawson and White, one each to Lumpkin, Rabun, and Towns.

#8 RABUN COUNTY

PREVIOUS: #5
RECORD: 13-11 (5-7 in 8-AA)

The Cats finished fourth in 8-AA to secure a state playoff spot, and took local wins over Tallulah Falls, Lumpkin, Union, and White. Losses locally came against Stephens, Banks (3x), and Union (2x). The 2 losses to Union (previously our #12 in the Power Rankings) is the big reason Rabun fell in our final shuffle.

#9 DAWSON COUNTY

PREVIOUS: #9
RECORD: 12-15 (6-12 in 7-AAA)

The Tigers lost 3 times to White, once to Hab and once to Lumpkin, and had local wins over Union (2x) and Lumpkin (2x).

#10 STEPHENS COUNTY

PREVIOUS: #7
RECORD: 11-16 (5-10 in 8-AAA)

The Indians fought for their season in the finale, and came up with a double-header sweep to secure a playoff spot. They took local wins over Habersham and Rabun, but sit here with the full body of work.

#11 TOWNS COUNTY

PREVIOUS: #10
RECORD: 8-16 (4-12 in 8-A Public)

Towns County took one win over Union, but dropped another to their rivals, and lost 3 times to Commerce to have them here. The Indians struggled to get consistency this season.

#12 LUMPKIN COUNTY

PREVIOUS: #11
RECORD: 7-21 (3-15 in 7-AAA)

Lumpkin had lost 13 in a row before coming out with a few wins late. Wins over Union and Dawson came locally, while they dropped 3 to White and one each to Rabun, Union, and Dawson.
