Game of the Week: Dawson County vs White County

Our Game of the Week sends us to Dawsonville for a rivalry that both teams have circled and is widely-viewed as a defacto region title game!

DAWSON COUNTY

The Tigers’ 2020 season has all but gone according to plan. That doesn’t mean the ship isn’t being righted. Coach Sid Maxwell didn’t shy away from competition with a very tough out-of-region slate. That might prove to pay dividends starting tonight if Dawson can get a statement win over White County. The Tigers have an offense that has so many weapons, and the key will be keeping QB Zach Holtzclaw uncomfortable in the pocket. The difference maker could also wind up being all-state kicker Caleb Bonesteel.

WHITE COUNTY

White County is looking to continue its hot streak. Dawson is a game on the schedule that everyone wishes was perhaps the final week, as it likely determines the region champion. The Warriors also have a stellar offense that is ridiculous to stop. Fresh off a big win at Habersham Central, the momentum is full throttle for White County.

You’d think these teams would have played each other a lot more. Alas, there are only 8 all-time meetings heading into this one. The last was a barn burner if there ever was one, a White County 45-42 win over Dawson. This matchup was planned in 1980 and 1981, but wasn’t played again until 2000. Here is the lone version of this matchup that we’ve recorded for your viewing pleasure:
