Crystal Ball: Week 5 Predictions

We were almost dead-on for our predictions in Week 4, and are now at 81% on the season. That’s closer to our 86% of all of 2019. Here are the official predictions for Week 5. It’s a light night, because four teams have bye weeks (Rabun, White, Commerce, Dawson).

DISCLAIMER: We dissect the numbers, check against other projections, utilize the brain and not the heart. If we pick against any of our beloved 11 programs, take it as a diss if you want, or use it as motivation. We obviously would love to see all 11 programs win every single game, so we’ll celebrate even if we’re wrong if it means our locals walk off the field as winners.

THE LOCALS

Stephens County vs Habersham Central

Stephens County (3-1) and Habersham Central (2-1) renew their age-old rivalry. The last edition featured Habersham finally winning after over two decades of coming up on the short end. Could they make it a streak of Raider wins, or will the Indians reclaim the edge in the series? VERDICT: FAN VOTE

Union County vs Pickens

The Panthers (1-2) stay home against Pickens. After an unexpected bye week following a COVID exposure, Union must regroup and try to even their record to .500. VERDICT: UNION

#1 Jefferson @ #10 Hart County

Jefferson (3-0) is now ranked #1 in one state poll. Hart County won’t be a slouch, but simply put, they’re not getting past the Dragons, even if they are playing at home. VERDICT: JEFFERSON

Lumpkin County @ St. Francis

Lumpkin (0-3) is in desperate need of a win. After losing to both Towns and Banks pretty handedly, the Indians would love to take things out on St. Francis. Unfortunately, playing on the road won’t make it easy. VERDICT: ST FRANCIS

Banks County @ Fannin County

Banks (1-3) is fresh off win number one. That’s big. Now, traveling up into Fannin makes for a long bus ride. Roman Haynes and Jace Bennett will need to once again play very well to come out with a W. Being at home, however, favores Fannin. VERDICT: FANNIN

Towns County @ Lakeview

Towns County (2-2) lost by an eyelash last week. That can make or break their spirit. This one is a difficult choice, because the Indians are obviously riding a high on the 2020 season, and have brought in many new faces that have buoyed the team. Lakeview, however, is fresh off a W, and they do have that legendary coach Lee Shaw. VERDICT: LAKEVIEW

THE OTHERS

Predicted winners are in bold

Chestatee vs North Hall
Denmark vs North Forsyth
Johnson vs Eastside
Cherokee Bluff vs Lakeside
East Hall @ East Jackson
#5 Flowery Branch @ Hiram
Gainesville @ Forsyth Central
