Weekly Roundup – Softball

We got a full week in for local softball! That’s a BIG win these days. Let’s hope it continues. Here is a rundown of all the locals and known results so far this season.
BANKS COUNTY
RECORD: 1-1 (0-0)
STATE RANK: #1
The Lady Leopards opened their title defense with a 5-1 loss to Jefferson, but rebounded with a decisive 13-6 win over Stephens County. Their official season-opener against East Hall was moved to Saturday due to rain that day.
COMMERCE
RECORD: 1-0 (1-0)
STATE RANK: #4
The Lady Tigers also had a game rained out, but opened the season against region foes Towns County and came out with a 16-1 win in which the bats were red-hot.

DAWSON COUNTY
RECORD: 0-0 (0-0)
STATE RANK: N/A
The Lady Tigers haven’t published a result yet for any games, so right now it appears as though they haven’t played yet. At least not according to any data that can be found.
HABERSHAM CENTRAL
RECORD: 3-1 (0-0)
STATE RANK: N/A
The Lady Raiders are off to a great start at 3-1. The lone loss was a nail-biting 4-3 opening loss to Prince Avenue Christian. Since then, it was an 8-0 win over White County, 7-6 11-inning win over Stephens, and 8-0 win over North Hall.
JEFFERSON
RECORD: 1-0 (0-0)
STATE RANK: N/A
The glaring omission of the opening state rankings by the AJC was leaving out Jefferson in Class 4A…we’re almost certain it was an accident. The Lady Dragons opened with a 5-1 win over Banks County.

LUMPKIN COUNTY
RECORD: 2-2 (0-0)
STATE RANK: #8
Lumpkin County opened up 2-2 in the first week. A loss to Madison and Union were avenged with a win over the latter and a win over Forsyth Central.
RABUN COUNTY
RECORD: 0-1 (0-0)
STATE RANK: N/A
Rabun lost to White County 14-7 in opening action.
STEPHENS COUNTY
RECORD: 0-3 (0-0)
STATE RANK: N/A
Stephens County is off to a slow start at 0-3. That came in a pair of losses to East Hall, and a 7-6, 11-inning loss to rivals Habersham.
TOWNS COUNTY
RECORD: 2-1 (0-1)
STATE RANK: N/A
Towns County lost big to visiting Commerce recently, but had a pair of wins in similar fashion over West Hall, winning 14-4 and 15-0. Not a bad start!

UNION COUNTY
RECORD: 2-1 (0-0)
STATE RANK: #5
The Lady Panthers beat Lumpkin 8-1 but fell to them in the second game of a double header, 9-7. That was followed by an 11-3 win over White County.
WHITE COUNTY
RECORD: 1-2 (0-0)
STATE RANK: N/A
The Lady Warriors fell 8-0 to Habersham and 10-3 to Union, but got in the win column with a 14-7 win over Rabun.
