Jefferson’s Starks, Habersham’s Pickett earn Top 10 Status
Georgia High School Football Daily has been running a Top 10 by position in the state leading into 2020. On Friday morning, GHSFD unveiled the top 10 “athletes” or as we also know them, two-way players.
Two of the ten play in our very own backyard. Jefferson’s Malaki Starks, and Habersham Central’s Joshua Pickett earn the distinction. Starks is a 5-star recruit and rushed for 544 yards and 5 TD last year on offense. On defense, he had 5 interceptions and was an All-State talent on that side of the ball. Pickett had 750 receiving yards last season, and had great success as a kickoff returner as well. On defense, he racked up 61 tackles and was also an All-State honoree. He is committed to Duke, making that decision back in February.
The funny thing is where both players will be in 2020. Starks will be taking over at QB for Jefferson following the departure of Colby Clark, and rumor has it he will continue to play both sides of the ball, at least to some degree.
Pickett too is officially making the move to QB, and we saw him last season throw the ball a time or two in certain play packages. It’s not clear whether he will remain a two-way player this season.
