Diamond Preview 2020: Banks County

You simply can’t beat 2019. Banks County straight up ran the table and flat-out dominated, and was able to secure a state title on their home field due to extenuating circumstances. While a great number of the standouts are gone from the title-winning team, there are still some pieces to play with, and a head coach who sets the bar high.

Head Coach: Kelby Cronic, 2nd Season
2019 Record: 32-3; Class 2A State Champions; Region 8-AA Champions; #1 State Ranking
Head coach Kelby Cronic doesn’t hold back on the expectations for 2020: “Competing for a region title, and getting back on the road to Columbus,” states Cronic.
Personnel
Key Departures: Tybee Denton, Jill Martinet, Jewels Ayers, Brookely Lewis, Kya Santiago
Key Returning Players: Madison Cronic, Jacy Ayers, Kylee Brooks, Shelby Speed, Lindsey Crawford
You can’t really replace Tybee Denton. She was a generational talent, and was the 2019 BLITZ Player of the Year after having an unbelievable year in the circle and at the plate. Jill Martinet is also VERY hard to replace in leadership and what she did at the plate. However, Madison Cronic is poised for a sensational senior season, and Jacy Ayers and Kylee Brooks return after making a name for themselves last season.
Strengths & Areas of Focus
Strengths: Great bats, solid pitching rotation, smart defense. Last year’s backups are ready to step in and make their mark. Team chemistry is high, and the team is unselfish and has the coaching ability to have major success.
Focusing On: Younger girls getting settled in quick and…social distancing. That might be tough for a team that is so close.
