Both Jefferson teams, Union girls punch tickets to Elite 8 [Sweet 16 recaps]

Six local teams tipped off on Wednesday night in their respective Sweet 16 matchups. It proved the end of the line for 3 of the teams, with Union girls and both Jefferson teams moving on as the last remaining local teams. (Banks boys play Thursday). Below are game recaps of each matchup.

BANKS CO LADY LEOPARDS 36, VIDALIA 55

Banks County (15-16) fell to #1-seed Vidalia, 55-36. Pollie Simpson had a team-best 11, while Kamryn Grier had 8, Kalyn Beasley 5, Jacy Ayers and Jenna Reeves both 4 points. The Lady Leopards’ season has come to an end.

JEFFERSON LADY DRAGONS 64, PIERCE 33

The Lady Dragons (25-4) are going to the Quarterfinals after a blowout 64-33 win over Pierce. This marks the fourth straight season making the Elite 8. Deshona Gaither had 16 points in the win. Ellie Kinlaw had 13.

RND 1: W vs #4 Adairsville (6-AAA)
SWEET 16: vs #2 Pierce County (2-AAA) // Wednesday Feb 19 @ 7 PM

The Dragons (20-7) are back in the Quarterfinals with a thrilling 65-57 win over Pierce. It’s the first time since 2014 making the Elite 8 for the Dragons. Jefferson was led by Jacob Radaker (14 pts), while Malaki Starks (12 pts) also came up huge.

TALLULAH FALLS LADY INDIANS 44, ST FRANCIS 76

The Lady Indians (17-8) fell to top-seeded St. Francis, 76-44. Denika Lightbourne had a team-high 11, while Lillie Free scored 9 in her final game at TFS. Veronaye Charlton had 9, and Katy Corbett 8 in the loss. Tallulah Falls’ season has ended.

UNION CO LADY PANTHERS 61, BUTLER 37

The Lady Panthers (23-6) are Elite 8 bound after a huge 61-37 win over #3-seed Butler. Ava Hunter led the way with 20 points, while Andelin Hill had 17 and Kait McCarter 11.

WHITE CO LADY WARRIORS 49, CARVER 66

The Lady Warriors (21-8) fell in a tough loss to #1-seed Carver, 66-49, thus ending White County’s historic season.
