Indians’ soccer celebrates senior night with 4-2 win
TFS Athletics – Tallulah Falls School’s varsity boys’ soccer team capitalized on Senior Day, defeating Brandon Hall 4-2 at home on Friday, Oct. 4.
Mohammad Kanu of Decatur, Babatomiwa Sofela of Nigeria, David Woods of Miami, Maik Murenzi of Rwanda, Daniel Kasas of Serbia and Samuel Dunlap of Lakemont were the six seniors on the team this season.
“Senior Day 2019 proved a fitting match for our boys’ soccer seniors,” coach Brett Adams said. “Mohammad Kanu, Babatomiwa Sofela, David Woods, Maik Murenzi, Daniel Kasas and Sam Dunlap each made serious contributions tactically and emotionally to the outcome of this match.”
Dunlap netted an early header, giving TFS a 1-0 lead. While controlling the game, much in part to Mohammad Kanu’s strong midfield play, Brandon Hall capitalized on two ensuing breakaways leaving TFS emotionally and psychologically disrupted. The blow of the halftime whistle saw the Indians working from a 1-2 deficit.
“Due to more dominant play, we established a benchmark at halftime to net three goals in the second half,” coach Adams said. “With a total of two assists coming from David Woods, and Maik Murenzi’s goal contribution, we leveled and then overtook Brandon Hall 3-2.”
Daniel Kasas took a 35-yard sweeping shot from the right wing, just narrowly getting cleared off the goal line. Tomiwa Sofela reorganized the defense, locking down Brandon Hall’s threats the remainder of the match.
Samuel Dunlap worked hard throughout the match, tirelessly pressing Brandon Hall’s back line, and netted a hat trick in the Indians’ triumph.
“Senior Day 2019 delivered the prism of emotions often accompanying these special days,” Adams said. “Each senior contribution was cataloged and underscored.”
