Brooklyn Nunley tallied three hits and played stellar defense while leading Commerce to an 8-4 win at Rabun County on Thursday. The Lady Tigers (5-7; 1-1) took a commanding early lead and wouldn’t relinquish it down the stretch despite the Lady Wildcats (7-3; 0-1) tightening up in the second half of the game.

Commerce got a pair of first-inning runs courtesy of Nunley’s RBI single followed by Kennedy Garcia’s run-scoring ball in play that produced an error.

In the second frame, Nunley added a 2-run double, and Brooklyn Harbin followed with an RBI base hit for the 5-0 lead. Rabun County got one back in the home half on Jessa Gipson’s RBI groundout.

Commerce added another unearned run in the third, but the Lady Wildcats rallied for a couple of runs, as Addison Patton drove in a run with a double, and Maddie Scott had an RBI hit to make it a 6-3 game.

The final dagger came in the top of the fourth, when Harbin added a 2-run single to pad the lead up to 8-3.

Rabun County staged one final comeback attempt and got a run home in the final inning, as Kyla Shook brought home a run on a double. They’d leave runners in scoring position to end the game.
