Game of the Week Preview: Lakeview vs Commerce

SBT Team online ad FOOTBALL

The BLITZ Game of the Week gives us our first Commerce game since 2015. The team with one of the richest histories in Georgia travels to Gainesville to take on Lakeview Academy.

Lakeview is just trying to get that first victory of the season. It’s been a tough go at it this year, as the Lions have been outscored 180-54 in their 4 games. Playing #5 Commerce will only make things tougher on them. The last winning season for long-time head coach Matthew Gruhn was in 2012, when the team won 6 games. Gruhn has been the head coach since the program started in 2007, and has a career 30-75 record.

The #5 Tigers are rolling, and are coming off a well-earned bye week following a stomping of Madison County. Commerce is tied with two others atop the region standings, and will be looking to move to 2-0 if they can pounce on Lakeview. Tyleon Brock, Sam Roach, Nate Ray, and others are making a lot of noise this season.

Commerce is…well, Commerce. Some things never change, and the Tigers have been a playoff team for 22 years in a row, and this year will make 23. Michael Brown (57-21) continues to lead his alma mater to greatness. This game could be over quickly, even if it is in enemy territory. OUR PICK: COMMERCE

Since Lakeview’s inception of football in 2007, it has squared off with the Tigers on 7 different occasions, but has yet to walk off the field as winners. The closest was during the 2014 season, in which Commerce still won handedly, 55-28. Last year’s result was a bit more lopsided, a 42-0 win for the Tigers. Twice Commerce has put up 50-plus points in this matchup, and only twice has Lakeview scored in double-digits.
