Banks, Union, Rabun march on to Sweet 16; Stephens & Habersham fall

The postseason is here, and for the trio of Class 2A locals – Banks, Union, and Rabun – it’s gotten off to a hot start.

CLASS 6A
HABERSHAM CENTRAL
The Lady Raiders (11-13) took on #1-seeded Creekview on Monday night. Habersham fought hard, taking game one into extra innings before falling on a walkoff hit. In the second game, the Lady Grizzlies won 9-4 to secure the first round sweep. Habersham’s season has come to an end.

CLASS 4A
STEPHENS COUNTY
The Lady Indians (13-14) fell in the opening round of the playoffs to #2-seed Lafayette, losing 9-1 and 8-0 to close their season.
CLASS 2A
BANKS COUNTY
The top-ranked Lady Leopards (26-3) had no trouble with KIPP, putting up a 30-0 score in game one, followed by a 25-0 win in the clincher. Banks County now is set to take on Bacon County (#2 seed) on October 15-16.
UNION COUNTY
The 8-AA runner-up Lady Panthers (15-13) swept past Therrell in Blairsville on Tuesday, scoring 16 runs in the first inning of game one. Mary Wischmeyer and Patton both went deep in that inning. The final was 22-0 in three innings, as Queen put up three perfect innings. In game two, it was 17-0 the final as the Lady Panthers secured a Sweet 16 berth for the first time since 2016. Union faces #1-seed Vidalia in that round starting October 15.
RABUN COUNTY
The Lady Wildcats (13-7) earned the #3 seed from the tough 8-AA, and easily won their two games without any effort at all to advance to the Sweet 16. That’s because South Atlanta forfeited the series, propelling Rabun County into the next round, where Harlem awaits them October 15-16.
