Scores & Recaps: Thrillers and Blowouts Define Week 5

Week 5 was nothing short of amazing in many cases, as we saw history change in Habersham’s win over Stephens, and White County’s jaw-dropping comeback win at The Brickyard was something not to be forgotten. There were also some surprises (in a good way), as Jefferson straight up clobbered Gainesville.

No surprise as the high-octane offense rolled past Monticello in the region opener for both teams. Pierson Allison accounted for 5 TDs (4 passing, 1 rushing). Jonah Daniel had 3 TD (2 rushing, 1 receiving). Daniel’s first score was followed by a Monticello TD, but then Allison found Sawyer Drake for a go-ahead score. Allison later threw a TD to Cayden Rich before Daniel’s 70-yard TD run made it 35-7.

Monticello found like and cut it to 38-21 late in the third, but Allison scored a 22-yard TD on the ground, and moments later another TD to rich on a fake punt. The scoring was capped by an Allison-to-Kyle Morlock 69-yard TD early in the fourth.

It was 30-0 just 7 minutes into the game. A second safety and another Roach TD helped push it to 38-3 at the break. It was a running clock in the second half.

#8 Jefferson 41, Gainesville 7

The Dragons annihilated the Red Elephants in what was shocking. Malaki Starks had a pair of quick TDs (one rushing, one receiving). Kam Robinson had a scoop-n-score TD to push the lead to 21-0. It was 27-0 at the break, and Starks scored another TD in the third to put the game away.

White County 34, North Hall 31

The Warriors won a thriller at The Brickyard. J Ben Haynes had a couple short-yardage TD runs to put White County up 14-7, and a field goal made it 17-7. North Hall scored 10 straight to tie it up going into the break. Andrew Pierce’s second FG gave the Warriors a brief third quarter lead, but the Trojans went crazy to go up 31-20 with about 10 minutes to play in the fourth.

Haynes threw a long TD to Cooper Turner, and then he added his third rushing TD moments later, giving the Warriors the come from behind win. With that, the Warriors now have the series lead all time at 24-23.
