On Tuesday night, four local girl programs took to the pitch in an attempt to inch closer to a state title run. It was a great night, as Dawson, Lumpkin, and Towns all cruised to wins, while Jefferson survived in dramatic fashion in PKs. White County’s score has yet to be reported.
Dawson Co Lady Tigers 7, Sonoraville 0
The #2-ranked Lady Tigers (13-1-1) took care of business swiftly on Tuesday evening, dropping Sonoraville 7-0 to advance to the Sweet 16. Dawson now takes on the daunting task of #7-ranked Jefferson, who defeated Pace Academy in PKs also.
Jefferson Lady Dragons 1, Pace Academy 0 (PKs)
The #7-ranked Lady Dragons (12-4-1) had their hands full with #9-ranked Pace Academy, who took Jefferson to the brink. The home team survived in an epic PK battle, winning 1-0 (7-6 PKs).
Jefferson will now turn its attention to Dawson County in the Sweet 16. The tough journey for the Lady Dragons includes back-to-back top-10 playoff matchups.
Lumpkin Co Lady Indians 4, Adairsville 1
The Lady Indians (11-6), ranked #8 in the state, took quick care of second-seeded Adairsville on the road, 4-1 to advance to the Sweet 16. The new task at hand is difficult to say the least, as Lumpkin will now take on #1-ranked Westminster (17-1-1) for an opportunity to be giant slayers.
Towns Co Lady Indians 6, Bowdon 0
Towns County (10-2-1) made easy work of Bowdon in a 6-0 shutout win for their second-ever playoff win (first coming last year). The Lady Indians advance in the 1A Public bracket to the quarterfinals (Elite 8) with the victory, and will face the winner of the Chatt Co/ACE Charter.
