Lady Tigers earn hard-fought top-ten showdown win over GAC [VIDEO]
The Dawson County Lady Tigers fell behind just once for a brief moment in the second quarter, but regained the lead and never looked back in a 75-67 win over #7 GAC Friday night in Dawsonville.
The #3-ranked Lady Tigers (5-2; 2-0 Region 7-AAA) used 24 points from sophomore Shyla Sheffield. The post player scored 10 in the first half and 14 in the second.
Dawson led 16-15 after the first quarter, led by a pair of Sophia d’Oliveira. The girls stretched the lead quickly to 20-15 before an 8-2 run by the Lady Spartans to take a very brief 23-22 lead. Ella Siuta drained a triple to give the Lady Tigers the lead back, and they never relinquished.
Dawson outscored GAC 19-11 in the second quarter, taking a 35-26 lead into the break after a 13-3 run to close out the half. The Lady Spartans were able to hold Clemson signee Kaylee Sticker to no points in the first half. She ended with 12 after getting in the stat sheet with six minutes left in the third.
The visitors won the third quarter 20-15, pulling within 46-45 after a late 3-pointer in the third. Sheffield added a bucket just before the buzzer to push the lead back to 50-46 going into the final quarter.
The Lady Tigers closed strong with a 25-point fourth quarter to win their fifth game of the season and remain perfect in 7-AAA play. Sheffield led the way with 24 points, d’Oliveira finished with 13, and Madison Anglin and Sticker both had 12.
