Game of the Week Preview: Rabun & Elbert battle for region title in top-10 matchup

SBT Team online ad FOOTBALL

Week 9 is upon us! We’ve made our bold BLITZ Predictions for this week, and determined that our Game of the Week is #3 Rabun County vs #10 Elbert County in a defacto region 8-AA title game! Nothing is a given, as the Blue Devils have outscored opponents 171-15 in region games so far, presenting a bit of a challenge for Rabun County, who is looking for a fourth straight region title.

Rabun County had just one region title in 63 years (1998) prior to the arrival of coach Lee Shaw. The Cats have outscored all opponents 355-75 in 2017.

Our Prediction: Elbert comes out strong, but Rabun, like in 2016, outlasts the Blue Devils on the way to virtually securing a fourth straight region championship.

WEEK 0 – Chestatee vs North Hall
WEEK 1 – #5 Rabun vs #9 Mt. Pisgah
WEEK 2 – Habersham Central vs White
WEEK 3 – White vs #3 Rabun
WEEK 4 – Habersham Central vs Stephens
WEEK 5 – Habersham Central vs Chestatee
WEEK 6 – Dawson vs North Hall
WEEK 7 – Gainesville vs Habersham Central
WEEK 8 – North Hall vs Union

Here’s everything you need to know for Week 9:

TIME: 7:30 pm kickoff
PLACE: Frank Synder Stadium (Rabun County High School/Tiger, GA)
LAST MEETING: Rabun won 42-10 at the Granite Bowl in 2016
ALL-TIME RECORD: Rabun County 1, Elbert County 0
RECORDS: Rabun County (7-0; 3-0); Elbert County (6-1; 3-0)

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Last year was the only previous meeting between the Wildcats and Blue Devils. Rabun won big in 2016 at the Granite Bowl, 42-10. Elbert had come out strong, forcing multiple turnovers early. However, there was just too much Bailey Fisher, as the Wildcats stormed to a virtual region title with a huge third quarter.
