Commerce secured a blowout win over White County on Friday in a final tune-up at home, ending the varsity session with a 54-3 win (60-10 the true final). The Tigers scored 37 unanswered points after the Warriors notched a field goal in the second to pull within 17-3.

Commerce had a lengthy first drive, and thought they had a TD on Demarco Huff’s 15-yd run, but it would be called back. The Tigers would settle for a 24-yd field goal by Grayson Duke. 

White County forced and recovered a fumble deep in Commerce territory later in the first, only to see the Tigers return the favor and take it 90 yards on a scoop-and-score by Caden McWilliams for the 10-0 lead. 

Before the end of the first, Tate Kirk aired one out long to Bryson Parks, which went for a 71-yd score and a 17-0 advantage. 

The Warriors found their way on the board in the second, when Luke Byrne split the uprights on a 29-yd kick. Despite Huff again scoring on a long run that got called back, eventually Commerce returned to the end zone.

On the next drive for White County, a punt snap went out of the end zone, with the safety putting Commerce ahead 19-3 late in the second. 

The Tigers were just getting heated up. Huff finally reached the end zone and it counted, this time an electrifying 31-yd run stuck. A punt block was then returned by McWilliams less than 30 seconds later, stretching the lead up to 33-7. 

Before the break, Kirk found Essien Lockleer up the middle, and he raced in for a 30-yd score that made it a 40-3 game at the half, putting the game far out of reach. 

For good measure, Commerce tacked on a couple more scores in the third. One was a 20-yd TD pass from Kirk to Sorrells, and then Jamario Bonds bulldozed his way in on a 1-yd TD to make it 54-3 heading into the final quarter with a running clock.

The JV squads took over at the end, with touchdowns scored by White County’s Ashton Elrod, and Commerce’s Quinnam Conley-Kaden Brock.

Kirk threw for three touchdowns, to Parks, Sorrells, and Lockleer. McWilliams had two touchdowns defensively, and Huff had one rushing score.
