The BLITZ Fan Vote for Football Player of the Week saw 32,308 votes come in, with Elijah Dewitt (Jefferson) taking the most at 16,103. BLITZ then named both Cal Faulkner (Lumpkin County) and Ivy Tolbert (Commerce) as Co-POW.

ELIJAH DEWITT – JEFFERSON

Senior Elijah Dewitt earns POW honors after a standout performance for the Dragons in their win against Clarke Central to open region play. Dewitt, who hauled in over 1,000 receiving yards last season at Prince Avenue Christian, continues to be the go-to option for Max Aldridge and the Jefferson offense. In Week Six, Dewitt tallied 4 receptions for 116 yards, adding 6 rushing yards and 4 tackles as well. This is Dewitt’s first POW award.

CAL FAULKNER – LUMPKIN COUNTY

Cal Faulkner had a career performance against Pickens in Week Six. The sophomore wideout hauled in 10 passes for a ridiculous 209 yards, with 3 of them going for TDs. That’s an average of 20.9 yards per catch. He also recorded 5 tackles on defense as the Lumpkin County Indians remain unbeaten at 5-0. This is Faulkner’s third career POW award and second this season.

IVY TOLBERT – COMMERCE

Ivy Tolbert came up clutch, as she always seems to do. In a tied 14-all ball game between rivals Commerce and Banks County, the Tigers got inside the red zone with little time left, giving Tolbert the opportunity to go for the game-winning field goal. She nailed the 27-yarder with ease to lift Commerce to a 17-14 win, as the defense held on after she got the ball through the uprights with 1:02 on the clock. Tolbert, a junior All-American soccer player who led the Commerce soccer team to the state championship game last season, earns her 8th career POW award.
