QB trio earn Football Player of the Week awards

The BLITZ Football Player of the Week Fan Vote collected 35,034 total votes, with Lumpkin County’s Cooper Scott taking 18,581 to win the POW Fan Vote. BLITZ then named both Gunner Stockton (Rabun) and Logan Helcher (Union) Co-POWs.

COOPER SCOTT – FAN VOTE

So far this season, Cooper Scott has progressed very well as QB1 for the Indians. The Lumpkin junior led the Indians to a second straight win – a first for the program since 2016. Scott had a 3 TD performance in the win over Gilmer, throwing for 84 yards and a score while rushing for 159 and 2 more TDs. Scott has passed for 573 yards on the season with a 7:2 TD-to-INT ratio, and has 291 rushing yards and 4 TD. His 11 total TDs are 5 better than his total from last season, while his 864 total yards surpassed last year’s 760. This is Scott’s second POW award of the season.

GUNNER STOCKTON – BLITZ PICK

The bigger the game, the better the performance for Gunner Stockton. The Rabun County star came up with arguably one of his best games against #3-ranked and defending State Champions Pierce County. Stockton quieted critics who thought Rabun couldn’t go up against a 3A powerhouse from South Georgia. He threw for 251 yards and 3 TD, and added 132 yards and a TD on the ground. Stockton’s season numbers now include 1,879 yards and 25 TD passing against just 1 interception, and 456 rushing yards and 6 TD. His 215 total TD in his career is just 2 shy of Deshaun Watson’s state record, so 3 more for Stockton and he takes the top spot all by himself. This is Stockton’s second POW award of the season and 17th of his career, as he is the most decorated athlete in BLITZ history.
