Tennis State Tournament – Sweet 16 Results
We had a total of 15 local teams – boys and girls – take the court for the GHSA State Tournament. After one round of play, there remained 10 teams in the hunt. Here are the Sweet 16 results.
BANKS CO 0, PACE ACADEMY 5 (BOYS)
#1 Banks County had no problems with Haralson County, and welcomed in #2 seed Pace Academy for the Sweet 16. That ended in a 5-0 loss to end the 2021 season.
BANKS CO 0, LOVETT 5 (GIRLS)
#1 Banks County cruised past Callway to advance to the Sweet 16, but fell in 5-0 fashion at home against Lovett to end their season.
COMMERCE 0, ARMUCHEE 5 (BOYS)
#2 Commerce had the luxury of not playing anyone in the first round of 1A Public. In the Sweet 16, the Tigers traveled to #1 seed Armuchee, falling 5-0 to bring the season to a close.
COMMERCE 4, TRION 0 (GIRLS)
#1 Commerce girls, like the boys, automatically advanced to the Sweet 16 with a first round bye, and took on Trion early. That was a 4-0 win, giving the Commerce Lady Tigers a trip to the Elite 8.
JEFFERSON 1, NW WHITFIELD 3 (BOYS)
After #4 Jefferson pulled off a monumental upset at #1 Hampton to advance to the Sweet 16, the road ended in a 3-1 loss to NW Whitfield on the road.
JEFFERSON 0, HERITAGE 3 (GIRLS)
#4 Jefferson girls did just like the boys and pulled off the rare 4-over-1 upset in a 3-2 nail-biter. That moved the Lady Dragons to the Sweet 16 to go up against #2 seed Heritage-Catoosa. Heritage won 3-0 to end Jefferson’s run.
LUMPKIN CO 0, GAC 4 (GIRLS)
#1 Lumpkin County took a 3-1 win over Sonoraville to advance to the Sweet 16 against #2 seed GAC. The Lady Indians fell 4-0 to end their season.
RABUN CO 0, LOVETT 5 (BOYS)
#2 Rabun survived in a thriller at home against Heard County, advancing with a 3-2 win to the Sweet 16 against Lovett, which was on the road at the #1 seed. Lovett won 5-0 to end Rabun’s season.
RABUN CO 0, PACE ACADEMY 4 (GIRLS)
#2 Rabun County defending the home court with a 4-0 win over Haralson, advancing to the Sweet 16 on the road against Pace Academy, a #1 seed. That came with a 4-0 loss to end their season.
STEPHENS CO 3, MURRAY CO 1 (GIRLS)
#2 Stephens County advanced to the Sweet 16 with a dominating 5-0 win over Sandy Creek, and then took down #1 seed Murray County, 3-1 on the road.
