Girls Soccer Power Rankings – April

The 2021 season draws to a close, and this is a natural break as many of the local teams are off for Spring Break before wrapping up the season ahead of the playoffs. Here are the April Power Rankings.

#1 COMMERCE
PREVIOUS: #1
RECORD: 13-0 (8-0 in 8-A Public)
The #1-ranked Lady Tigers show no sign of slowing down. There’s just about nothing in their way to winning a state championship.
#2 JEFFERSON
PREVIOUS: #2
RECORD: 9-2 (4-2 in 8-AAAA)
The #3-ranked Lady Dragons have continued to roll, and are currently sitting 3rd in their region.

#3 WHITE COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #3
RECORD: 11-3 (5-1 in 7-AAA)
The Lady Warriors are ranked #2 in the state, and sit tied atop the region standings while awaiting Cherokee Bluff’s final game. If it ends in a 3-way tie, things could get interesting to determine the proper seeding for state.
#4 LUMPKIN COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #4
RECORD: 10-4 (4-1 in 7-AAA)
The Lady Indians, ranked #4 in the state, are in a great spot, though if they beat North Hall in their next game, could create mass chaos at the top of the region standings. Incredible season regardless of how that shakes out, and the girls are primed for a deep playoff run.
#5 STEPHENS COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #5
RECORD: 9-1 (3-0 in 8-AAA)
The Lady Indians continue to have their best season in many years at 9-1 overall, and are second in the region standings with one fewer win to their credit than the region leaders. That region title game against Oconee is scheduled for April 14.

#6 RABUN COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #7
RECORD: 6-2-1 (5-0 in 8-AA)
The Lady Cats won their first region championship in school history, beating Union to claim the title. That means home playoff games for the first two rounds if they win, and it’s a good chance this Lauren Barnes-led team goes a long way.
#7 HABERSHAM CENTRAL
PREVIOUS: #6
RECORD: 7-7-1 (6-5 in 8-AAAAAA)
The Lady Raiders got back in the win column with a victory over Shiloh, and are sitting pretty at #4 in the region, locking up a playoff spot.
#8 UNION COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #10
RECORD: 5-3 (4-2 in 8-AA)
The Lady Panthers really have only two key losses, coming against Rabun, most notably in the de facto region title game. This is still a solid group with likely a second round or better run in the state tournament.
#9 TALLULAH FALLS
PREVIOUS: #11
RECORD: 5-3-1 (5-2 in 8-A Private)
The Lady Indians have really gotten hot lately, and are fresh off a pivotal 2-1 win over Loganville Christian to go up 5-2 in region play. A playoff guarantee is set, but the seeding is still up for grabs. Honora Kahwach has been a phenomenal talent for this group.
#10 TOWNS COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #8
RECORD: 5-4 (5-4 in 8-A Public)
The Lady Indians are ranked #7 in the state, and two of the losses are to #1 Commerce. This team will be just fine.
#11 BANKS COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #9
RECORD: 3-7 (1-4 in 8-AA)
The Lady Leopards are not exactly where they want to be, but still have a shot of the postseason if they can grab one more win.
#12 DAWSON COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #12
RECORD: 1-13-1 (1-4 in 7-AAA)
The Lady Tigers have a combined 6 goals through this season, and are learning to play together with many young players on the pitch.
