Girls Soccer Power Rankings – March

We have enough matches in to give some clarity/update to our Preseason Power Rankings. Nothing changes at the top, though there is some shuffle to the bottom half.

#1 COMMERCE
PREVIOUS: #1
RECORD: 5-0 (0-0 in 8-A Public)
The #1-ranked Lady Tigers have been absolutely dominant. Wins over Banks and Dawson by large margins show where this team is headed. Overall, they’ve outscored opposition 51-3. No one locally aside from White County is anywhere close as dominant in the goals for.
#2 JEFFERSON
PREVIOUS: #2
RECORD: 5-0 (1-0 in 8-AAAA)
The #4-ranked Lady Dragons stay true at number two, and have such wins locally as White County and Habersham (in a scrimmage), and have outpaced others 22-3. The defense has been ridiculously good.

#3 WHITE COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #6
RECORD: 6-1 (1-0 in 7-AAA)
The Lady Warriors are ranked #3 in the state, and for good reason. White County has earned a win locally over Stephens County, though they have suffered one loss to Jefferson by a 3-1 score. The girls have 48 goals, which is insane, and have only given up 5 (two against teams not named Jefferson).
#4 LUMPKIN COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #3
RECORD: 4-2 (0-0 in 7-AAA)
The Lady Indians, ranked #7 in the state, are off to a solid start, and took a recent win over Union County. Aside from a 10-0 loss to powerhouse Flowery Branch, Lumpkin is edging opponents 27-7.
#5 STEPHENS COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #11
RECORD: 4-1 (0-0 in 8-AAA)
The Lady Indians take the largest leap into the top five. Wins over Tallulah Falls and twice over Rabun have vauled Stephens County here. A loss to White County pins them under the Lady Warriors. Right now, they are dead even at 15-15 in goals for and against. The offense leaves a little to be desired, but the outcome has got to be better than they could have hoped for in the wins-losses department.

#6 HABERSHAM CENTRAL
PREVIOUS: #4
RECORD: 2-4 (1-3 in 8-AAAAAA)
The Lady Raiders don’t have the shiny record, but this team has a win over Dawson to their name, and if you take away their 10-0 loss at the hands of powerhouse Buford, they are outscoring others 15-7.
#7 RABUN COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #5
RECORD: 1-2 (0-0 in 8-AA)
The Lady Cats haven’t gotten to play much, but their two losses came against Stephens (above). The score differential is now 15-8 in favor of Rabun.
#8 TOWNS COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #10
RECORD: 0-1 (0-1 in 8-A Public)
The Lady Indians are still ranked #9 in the state for a reason. One game is nothing at this point.
#9 BANKS COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #12
RECORD: 2-2 (0-0 in 8-AA)
The Lady Leopards are having some success right now, and take away the blowout loss to Commerce, and the score differential is 8-12. Still something to be desired with the offense for sure, and the defense could be a little less porous. But, two wins speak for themselves.
#10 UNION COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #7
RECORD: 0-1 (0-0 in 8-AA)
The Lady Panthers haven’t gotten to play yet really. The one game was a loss to state-ranked Lumpkin, 3-0. Not too shabby. But too early to tell where this team is at right now.
#11 TALLULAH FALLS
PREVIOUS: #9
RECORD: 0-2 (0-1 in 8-A Private)
The Lady Indians are off to an 0-2 start, one of which came against fringe top-10 team Stephens and the other to state-ranked Athens Academy.
#12 DAWSON COUNTY
PREVIOUS: #8
RECORD: 0-7 (0-0 in 7-AAA)
The Lady Tigers have yet to find any rhythm. Losses have come to Commerce and Habersham among others, and they’ve been outscored 34-2 so far.
