On To The Final Four – Lumpkin and Towns Move On!
Four locals took to the hardwood on Tuesday night in the Quarterfinals…Two move on to the Final Four!
Jefferson 60, Carver-Columbus 61 (Girls)
The Lady Dragons (24-4) fell in a heart-breaker just shy of reaching the Final Four. They were down 42-38 at the half, and down one at 47-46 going into the final quarter. Both teams traded blows in the fourth, but Jefferson’s season came to a close in the loss.
Lumpkin County 64, Pierce County 55 (Girls)
After trailing 15-10 after the first, the Lady Indians (25-4) rallied back to take a 32-30 lead at the half. That went back in favor of Pierce County at 44-41 heading into the fourth. However, the Lady Indians outscored Pierce 20-14 in the final quarter to hang on to the 64-55 win and reach their first-ever Final Four.
Stephens County 58, Upson-Lee 66 (Girls)
The Lady Indians (19-7) saw their season come to a close with a 66-58 loss at Upson-Lee. Savana Broska led with 22 points, while Ranajah Verdell had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Kiki Howard added 11 points for Stephens County.
Towns County 61, Irwin County 54 (Boys)
The Indians (23-3) kept their dream season alive and took down Irwin County 61-54. Towns led 17-14 after one, and spread that to 31-21 at the break. The lead dwindled just a little down to 48-41 after the third quarter, and an 11-point lead in the fourth was nearly erased before the Indians put the game away at the line with a 61-54 win. This is the program’s first-ever Final Four run.
