Banks County Holds off Union Rally For First Region Win [VIDEO]

Banks County (14-9, 1-3 in 8-AA) led virtually the entire game on Tuesday night in Homer, but had to hold off a Union comeback attempt in the fourth to secure the Lady Leopards’ first region win of the season, a 47-39 final.

The #10-ranked Lady Leopards used big contributions by Carley Segars (14 pts), Kalyn Beasley (12), and Addison Hoard (12), all of whom recorded double-digit point totals. Banks County outscored Union County (2-6, 0-2) in every quarter, including 16-12 in the final stanza.

Banks rolled out to an 8-5 lead after one quarter of play, and both teams picked up the pace in the second to bring it to a 21-17 Lady Leopards halftime lead. Hoard led with 7 points in the half for Banks, while Ava Hunter scored 8 of her 12 points in the first half for Union. Ellie Cook also had a big first half for the Lady Panthers with 7 points.

The third saw both teams trade blows, with the deficit remaining the same heading into the fourth, with Banks up 31-27. The home team appeared to be running away with the game before Cook, who finished with 11 points, and Rebekah Chambers, who finished with a team-high 13 points, got Union to within three points in the final minute. It was 42-39 in favor of Banks with 44 seconds left and Union with the ball.

However, a missed layup gave Banks the ball, and Hailey Seahorn came off the bench to hit a couple of clutch buckets and come up with a huge block. Chambers had an 11-point second half to make for the dramatic ending.
