Football Power Rankings – Week Eleven

There was a slight change in our Power Rankings for Week 10, as we enter the final 2 weeks of the regular season.

#1 JEFFERSON

LAST RANK: #1
RECORD: 9-0 (5-0)
LAST: W by forfeit vs North Oconee
NEXT: @ Madison County

The #1 Dragons have clinched the region championship and are 9-0, though two of their games are by forfeit (North Oconee and East Hall). Fingers crossed that Jefferson can get this week’s regular season finale in against Madison County. Robbing two games from this incredible team is a shame.

#2 RABUN COUNTY

LAST RANK: #2
RECORD: 9-1 (3-0)
LAST: W 63-14 vs Union County
NEXT: BYE

#1-ranked Rabun polished off the regular season with a seventh straight win, which also was the seventh straight region title and seventh in a row over rivals Union. It’s a sigh of relief that the Cats finished off a regular season in which about 20 different opponents were on and off the schedule. Rabun finished out the region slate by outscoring 8-AA opponents 197-21.

#3 COMMERCE

LAST RANK: #3
RECORD: 8-1 (4-0)
LAST: W 28-17 @ #5 Washington-Wilkes
NEXT: vs Lincoln County

The #3-ranked Tigers earned a HUGE win over #5 Wash-Wilkes. It required a comeback, but Trey Huff, Sammy Brown and company made it happen. The Tigers have one game left, and it’s a big one at home over Lincoln County. A win for the Tigers means a region title and better seeding for the playoffs. A loss makes for a potential 3-way tie atop 8-A.

#4 DAWSON COUNTY

LAST RANK: #4
RECORD: 5-4 (4-1)
LAST: W 63-3 @ Lumpkin County
NEXT: @ North Hall

Dawson County fell behind 3-0, but scored 63 unanswered to move to 4-1 overall. With Cherokee Bluff already laying claim to the region crown, the focus shifts to The Brickyard on Friday, where Dawson takes on North Hall with the winner earning a home playoff game and #2 seed.

#5 WHITE COUNTY

LAST RANK: #5
RECORD: 7-2 (3-2)
LAST: W by forfeit @ Gilmer
NEXT: @ #8 Cherokee Bluff

The Warriors unfortunately saw their game get canned due to COVID by Gilmer. Next up, playoff bound White County takes on Cherokee Bluff on the road. This won’t be easy at all. Bluff is undefeated and already locked up the region crown. White County is playing for tuning up for the playoffs. Since both Dawson and North Hall are squaring off and both of them beat the Warriors, it appears as though it’s more than likely a #4 seed for White County.

#6 HABERSHAM CENTRAL

LAST RANK: #7
RECORD: 4-4 (2-2)
LAST: Canceled vs Central Gwinnett
NEXT: vs Central Gwinnett (Tuesday) & @ Shiloh (Saturday)

The Raiders saw their game get canceled last time out against Central Gwinnett. That has now been pushed to Tuesday, and then comes a Saturday game at Shiloh. Habersham is playing for seeding in the state playoffs, and potentially can be a #3 seed.

#7 STEPHENS COUNTY

LAST RANK: #6
RECORD: 4-3 (0-2)
LAST: Canceled @ #2 Oconee County
NEXT: vs East Jackson

Stephens County called off a pair of games against Hart County and Oconee County. It’s unclear right now what their playoff hopes are, if there is any hope left. Still, this team is hoping to be able to play its final home game of the regular season against East Jackson. Due to the recent hiatus of the Indians, they fall in our Power Rankings.

#8 TOWNS COUNTY

LAST RANK: #8
RECORD: 3-5 (1-2)
LAST: L 27-34 vs Social Circle
NEXT: @ #5 Washington-Wilkes

Towns County fell in dramatic fashion to Social Circle, and now turn to a regular season finale at #5-ranked Wash-Wilkes. This will be a huge win if the Indians can pull off the upset.

#9 UNION COUNTY

LAST RANK: #9
RECORD: 3-5 (1-2)
LAST: L 14-63 @ #1 Rabun County
NEXT: @ Gilmer

Union County dropped a game that gave Rabun the region title, though it was interesting to see new QB Kaston Hemphill take over under center from Logan Helcher, who has struggled this season. Union is hoping to get its game against Gilmer in, though Gilmer canceled last week for COVID, so it’s unclear of the possibility of playing this week. The Panthers would like to get a final tune-up for the state playoffs, where they’ll be a #3 seed.

#10 BANKS COUNTY

LAST RANK: #10
RECORD: 1-7 (0-2)
LAST: BYE
NEXT: @ Elbert County

Banks County had back-to-back bye weeks. That’s good for a team like the Leopards who were plagued with injuries. Now they will hope to go in to Elbert and possibly pull out an upset heading into the playoffs.

#11 LUMPKIN COUNTY

LAST RANK: #11
RECORD: 0-9 (0-5)
LAST: L 3-63 vs Dawson County
NEXT: vs West Hall

Lumpkin County goes into the season finale against West Hall with a legitimate chance to pull off a win. The Spartans are only 2-7, and Lumpkin would love to end the season with momentum.
