Raiders Snatch Historic Win From Lanier

Chaz Mullis – The Habersham Central Raiders caused a major upset on Friday night, taking down the Lanier Longhorns. This marks the first time the Raiders have ever won against Lanier, making this game one for the history books. 

Habersham wasted no time in the first quarter, snagging an interception early to create a 5-yard TD opportunity for QB Joshua Pickett, sending the score to 6-0. The Raiders claimed another interception shortly after on the kickoff to Lanier, sending Habersham to 14-0 after an 11-yard Jackson Clouatre TD and a successful two-point conversion. Lanier answered back at the end of the first with an impressive 48-yard passing TD to Aaron Prum, leaving the game at 14-7. 

The second quarter was rather uneventful until late in the quarter when the Raiders connected with yet another interception. This opened up an opportunity for Clouatre, who finished out the quarter with an impressive 40-yard TD pass, upping the score to 21-7.

The ballgame picked up after halftime when the Raiders sent Lanier back into their end zone after an interception, bumping the score to 23-7 after a safety on behalf of the Longhorns. Lanier responded with an interception of their own, which sent QB Andrew Blackford into the endzone in the beginning of the fourth quarter after a painstaking 4 minutes of fouls. The score let off at 23-15. 

The rest of the 4th quarter sealed the victory for the Raiders. Pickett beelined a 67-yard rushing TD, crushing the hopes of a Longhorn comeback at 29-15. Clouatre smashed the nail in the coffin after an interception drove the Raiders into the endzone, ending the game at 36-15. 

The Raiders are now 4-4 overall and 2-2 in region play, while Lanier is 4-3 overall and 1-3 in region play.
