BLITZ HOF 2020: Cross Country

CROSS COUNTRY

GRIFFIN STEPHENS

Griffin Stephens led Banks County to a state championship in cross country. The long distance champ was incredible for the Leopards, and saved his best for last. He polished off his career with a region title and subsequent state title, and PR’d 16:11. He was twice a region runner-up finisher, and was third, second, and first in three straight years at state. In his senior season, he finished in the top 5 on four occasions, earning the BLITZ Runner of the Year status. (5,166 VOTES)

ZOE SANCHEZ

Was there ever any doubt here? Zoe Sanchez is right up there with one of the best we’ve ever seen in cross country, save Jenna Gearing of White County, who won 5 state titles. Sanchez won back-to-back state titles and region titles (and finished region runner-up another time). She PR’d to the tune of 19:03, and won at least (what we could find) 12 races. Incredible performer for the Mercer-bound star. Sanchez is a four-time BLITZ Runner/Athlete of the Year winner. (4,178 VOTES)

BEN MCGINNIS

Ben McGinnis had a solid career leading the Dawson County cross country program. He was in the top 4 at region three times, and placed in the top ten at state once (9th), and also had an 11th, 16th, and 30th place finish there. He PR’d with a 16:15, making him a top runner in a very tough region and classification. He continues his running career at Augusta University. (1,908 VOTES)

JESSIE DOTSON

Jessie Dotson was the one who paved the way for White County cross country and her heir to the program, Jenna Gearing. Dotson went on to a solid career at Charleston Southern, but not before a standout two years for the Warriors. She was a region champion in 2010, finishing 37th at state that year, and followed that up with a senior year that included a 3rd-place finish at region and 6th-place finish at state. Her PR was 18:16. (161 VOTES – PRODUCER’S PASS)
