Girls Hoops Power Rankings: January

Girls hoops across the Northeastern part of Georgia is LIT! That makes our Power Rankings very difficult, as as many as 8 of the 12 teams have been state ranked this season.

#1 RABUN CO LADY WILDCATS
RECORD: 14-0 (4-0)
LAST RANKING: #2
Rabun is back in the top spot for the first time this season. The Lady Cats are riding 14 straight wins, and average 63.5 points per game, which is tops among all of the local programs we cover. The defense is also one of the best among locals, allowing just 43.8 per contest. Notable wins include twice over Stephens, and once each over Habersham, Banks, and Union. Rabun is ranked #1 in the state in Class 2A.

#2 JEFFERSON LADY DRAGONS
RECORD: 14-3 (5-0)
LAST RANKING: #1
The #3-ranked Lady Dragons have scored 58.9 per game (3rd-best among our locals), and allow 40.1 (2nd best). Notable wins over local teams include a victory over Dawson and Banks. Despite a couple of recent non-region losses, Jefferson is looking great right now.
#3 UNION CO LADY PANTHERS
RECORD: 11-3 (3-1)
LAST RANKING: #3
Union remains number three, and are ranked #8 in the state. The Lady Panthers have dropped 2 of the past 3, but won 5 straight before that. Their offense (57.8/game) is one of the best in our area, and the defense (43.0) is 3rd-best among our local programs. Wins include a pair over rivals Towns, and once over both White County and Tallulah Falls.
#4 STEPHENS CO LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 12-4 (2-0)
LAST RANKING: #5
The Lady Indians would like losses to Banks and Habersham back, but have split with both on the year, and only dropped 2 others to Rabun. These girls have won 4 in a row, and 6-of-7. The offense (57.9/game) has been solid. Stephens is in our Top 4, and are state-ranked inside the Top-10 in 4A.

#5 DAWSON CO LADY TIGERS
RECORD: 10-6 (4-1)
LAST RANKING: #6
Dawson has dropped some games early on, but recently surged with a win over Lumpkin, and have won 2 straight now and 4 of the last 5. Losses to Jefferson, White, and Stephens hurt, but right now the Lady Tigers sit in the top 5, and are in the top-10 rankings in Class 3A.
#6 LUMPKIN CO LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 10-7 (2-4)
LAST RANKING: #4
Lumpkin County is a top-10 ranked team in 3A, and have now won 3 of the past 5 games. Big wins include a pair over Banks and once over White, but a tough loss to Dawson keeps them behind the Lady Tigers.

#7 WHITE CO LADY WARRIORS
RECORD: 11-5 (4-1)
LAST RANKING: #8
The Lady Warriors are on a roll with 8 straight wins, and are inside the rankings for the Top 10 in Class 4A in at least one poll this season. The offense (59/game) has been the 2nd-best among our local programs, and the defense (46.5) has been stout. Losses to Lumpkin and Union keep them behind those programs, but wins over Habersham (twice) and Dawson (once) have them up here.
#8 COMMERCE LADY TIGERS
RECORD: 10-4 (1-0)
LAST RANKING: #7
Commerce falls a spot, but only because of the great play of other programs. The Lady Tigers had won 5 in a row before dropping 4 of the last 5. The defense (35.8) is the best of all local programs, but the offense (47.9) could use a little more consistency. A win over Towns has them here, and they’ve also fallen to Banks once.

#9 TALLULAH FALLS LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 7-3 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #9
Tallulah Falls has now won 4 straight, and have a balanced team with 55.9 per game scored against 44.1 allowed. Those numbers project a good combo to make a decent run in the state playoffs.

#10 HABERSHAM CENTRAL LADY RAIDERS
RECORD: 8-7 (0-1)
LAST RANKING: #10
The Lady Raiders have won 4 of the past 6, and could be higher on this list if not for so many elite programs up there. While the girls took down Stephens, they split against them, and also fell to Rabun and White County (twice).
#11 BANKS CO LADY LEOPARDS
RECORD: 6-9 (2-2)
LAST RANKING: #11
Banks County does well to allow just 44.5 per game, making it a tough out on any night. The Lady Leopards have come close to some huge wins, and have at times come away with the victory against state-ranked programs (Stephens, Commerce). But losses to Stephens, Lumpkin (twice), Rabun, and Jefferson have the girls here.

#12 TOWNS CO LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 5-7 (1-0)
LAST RANKING: #12
It says a lot that these girls are at the end of our Power Rankings. The Lady Indians are actually a solid team, and the 45.4 per game scoring defense is among the best in our area. The offense has not put up quite as much though, and losses to Union (twice) and Commerce are games they’d like to have back.
