Girls Hoops Power Rankings: December

It’s still very early, but we have enough games to give an educated power rankings list for girls hoops. Here’s the December edition!

#1 JEFFERSON LADY DRAGONS
RECORD: 8-0 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #1
The #2-ranked Lady Dragons are on FIRE! Wins over state-ranked Dawson and annual powerhouse Banks County started the season in fine fashion, as well as #4 ranked Druid Hills. Deshona Gaither and Livi Blackstock are looking scary-good right now, and more than likely they aren’t even playing their best basketball yet.

#2 RABUN CO LADY WILDCATS
RECORD: 3-0 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #2
Rabun had to fight hard for the win over Lakeview, but blew past Northview and Habersham Central. The Lady Cats are ranked #6 at the moment, and will continue to rise. The play of some girls stepping up this year, like Gracie Deetz, is a welcome surprise to compliment the likes of Laken Stiles and Destiny Deetz.
#3 DAWSON CO LADY TIGERS
RECORD: 3-3 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #3
Dawson, ranked #4, dropped a few to Jefferson, Flowery Branch, and state-ranked Cherokee, but have had some solid victories mixed in. This team can feature a high scorer on any given night. While Sophia D’Olivira, Marlie Townley, and Madison Anglin are the usual suspects, freshman phenom (is it too early to say that??) Kirklyn Porter is off to a fantastic start.

#4 LUMPKIN CO LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 5-2 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #7
Hello Kate Jackson. The freshman has emerged as a standout threat for the #6-ranked Lady Indians alongside already-star Isabelle Davenport. David Dowse, who recently just hit 200 career wins, is in for a special year with this group, which started the year out with a 4-game win streak. These girls have taken down the likes of Banks County, White County, Chestatee (twice), and Winder.
#5 STEPHENS CO LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 6-0 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #11
The Lady Indians take a giant leap, up from #11 last time. This includes a lopsided win over Clarke Central and another over Franklin County, and wins over Banks County and Habersham Central among others. What a terrific season so far for these girls!
#6 UNION CO LADY PANTHERS
RECORD: 3-0 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #6
Fantastic start for Union with a flawless opening set of games, including a win over rivals Towns County by 36 points, and a 5-point win over White County as well as a 24-point win over West Hall. Special things are coming to Blairsville this winter.
#7 WHITE CO LADY WARRIORS
RECORD: 1-4 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #4
Losses to Lumpkin, Union, North & South Forsyth have hurt the team, bot those losses were all by 6 points or less, including 3 losses by 2 or less points. White did beat Habersham Central for its lone win. Aside from leader Dasha Cannon, Maddie Futch has been a star so far.

#8 COMMERCE LADY TIGERS
RECORD: 2-0 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #10
Commerce and Bryanna Sanders can’t complain about this start…it’s been a good one with wins over Lake Oconee and Oglethorpe County.
#9 TALLULAH FALLS LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 3-2 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #8
Tallulah Falls got a big win over Pinecrest prior to a lengthy Thanksgiving break. Union County awaits this week.

#10 HABERSHAM CENTRAL LADY RAIDERS
RECORD: 3-4 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #12
It was a nice 2-0 start with wins over Franklin and East Jackson, and a win over East Hall recently was solid as well. There’s a lot of promise, but the 31-point loss to North Hall and drops to White, Rabun, and Stephens have Habersham in this position.
#11 BANKS CO LADY LEOPARDS
RECORD: 1-3 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #5
Banks County isn’t quite used to this kind of a start. Losing to Jefferson, Stephens, and Lumpkin to start the year was tough to swallow, but a rebound win over East Hall by 15 points was a great sight to see. Still, even those 3 losses were by 9 or less each.
#12 TOWNS CO LADY INDIANS
RECORD: 2-2 (0-0)
LAST RANKING: #9
Towns County suffered a bad loss to rivals Union, but its other loss was by only 6 points to Highlands. The girls started the year 2-0, and rematch with Union this week looms ahead.
