Week 5 Power Rankings

We have a new top four…for now. All teams in the top 5 have a legitimate shot at being among the best when all things are settled, and even the middle of the pack represents some solid teams. Only two are left unbeaten (Rabun & Union).

#1 RABUN COUNTY WILDCATS
LAST RANKING: #1
RECORD: 4-0 (1-0)
WEEK 5: W 55-8 vs Putnam County
NEXT: @ Monticello
Rabun County had a masterful performance by the offense, as Gunner Stockton and Brody Jarrard tallied most of the offensive yards. The defense also recorded 7 sacks in the win, and tons of players got their feet wet, which always bodes well for the future. Next week should be more of the same for the #2-state ranked Wildcats.

#2 UNION COUNTY PANTHERS
LAST RANKING: #2
RECORD: 4-0 (1-0)
WEEK 5: W 53-21 vs Monticello
NEXT: @ Putnam County
It was all Pierson Allison and Jonah Daniel. Allison put up one of the greatest stat lines we have ever seen by a QB with 490 passing yards and accounted for 5 TD, and the offense collected a grand total of 721 yards. Daniel had a few TDs of his own. Next up is another game that’ll be over quickly.

#3 JEFFERSON DRAGONS
LAST RANKING: #4
RECORD: 2-1 (0-0)
WEEK 5: W 41-7 @ Gainesville
NEXT: @ East Jackson
Jefferson absolutely shocked with a huge blowout win at Gainesville. They have never lost to the nearby traditional powerhouse. While most everyone expected the Dragons to win, nobody saw it being a 34-point spread. The Dragons take on East Jackson on the road.
#4 COMMERCE TIGERS
LAST RANKING: #5
RECORD: 3-1 (2-0)
WEEK 5: W 46-9 @ Providence Christian
NEXT: vs Madison County
The Tigers moved to 2-0 in region with an expected blowout win over Providence Christian. Next on tap is a date with non-region foes Madison County, followed by a second bye week.

#5 DAWSON COUNTY TIGERS
LAST RANKING: #3
RECORD: 3-1 (0-0)
WEEK 5: L 24-38 vs #6 Denmark
NEXT: @ Lumpkin County
The Tigers took their first defeat of the season to a stellar team with star-studded athletes in #6 Denmark. The Danes didn’t have it easy though, as Dawson stayed close throughout. It’s hard to drop the Tigers to fifth, but it’s so crowded up here. They are sure to climb back if they continue to get back on track against neighboring rivals Lumpkin in Week 6.
#6 HABERSHAM CENTRAL RAIDERS
LAST RANKING: #6
RECORD: 2-2 (0-0)
WEEK 5: W 27-21 vs Stephens County
NEXT: @ Franklin County (make-up)
That’s not a typo….Habersham Central finally beat Stephens County after not doing so since 1996. Now that that’s over with, and the 0-2 start is now a .500 record at 2-2, the Raiders will look to make up the postponed lightning game from Week 3 at Franklin. This represents the final tune-up before diving headfirst into region play.

#7 WHITE COUNTY WARRIORS
LAST RANKING: #7
RECORD: 3-1 (0-0)
WEEK 5: W 34-31 @ #10 North Hall
NEXT: @ #2 Marist
White County crushed the Trojans’ hearts with a huge comeback win over #10 North Hall at The Brickyard. Not an easy task. J Ben Haynes and company now face a bigger task in traveling to #2 Marist…
#8 BANKS COUNTY LEOPARDS
LAST RANKING: #8
RECORD: 2-2 (1-0)
WEEK 5: W 45-7 vs Social Circle
NEXT: @ Oglethorpe
Banks County took a giant stride toward a playoff berth early on. Starting 1-0 in region is critical, because looming ahead are state-ranked beasts Rabun and Union, as well as Elbert. That makes for no room for error for other teams in the region. The Leopards were all over Social Circle, and next travel to Oglethorpe in hopes of going above .500.

#9 STEPHENS COUNTY INDIANS
LAST RANKING: #9
RECORD: 1-4 (0-0)
WEEK 4: L 21-27 @ Habersham Central
NEXT: @ Cedar Shoals
We feel sorry for Cedar Shoals. The Indians might be taking tons of frustration out on CS in Week 6 after dropping now 4 straight games, including the heartbreaker at Habersham Central. You have to wonder after the team is midway through the schedule already, how much more of a beating can Hudson Spurlock take. He gets the ball about 80% of the time and has taken some big hits. Still, he’s proven to be durable and extremely productive. Stephens will seek a win over Cedar Shoals followed by back-to-back bye weeks to rest everyone up for region play.

#10 LUMPKIN COUNTY INDIANS
LAST RANKING: #10
RECORD: 1-3 (0-0)
WEEK 5: Bye
NEXT: vs #10 Dawson County
Lumpkin got the well-deserved bye week after its first win, but now must go back to work when hosting #10 Dawson County. Won’t be easy in Dahlonega.
#11 TOWNS COUNTY INDIANS
LAST RANKING: #11
RECORD: 0-4 (0-1)
WEEK 5: L 14-48 vs #10 George Walton
NEXT: @ #1 Athens Academy
The Indians were throttled by George Walton, a state-ranked team, but this matchup in Week 6 is just going to be insane as Towns will be forced to travel into #1-ranked Athens Academy.
