Through each full week of sports in the school year, we’ll recognize the Teams of the Week, brought to you by Cofield Outdoors!

Baseball – Jefferson Dragons & Franklin County Lions
The Dragons edged out Harlem in a 2-game sweep in the Sweet 16, winning 3-1 in the opener and 5-2 in the second game to clinch a Quarterfinals berth. For Franklin County, the Lions also swept, but in mercy-rule fashion in both games with a 14-0 and 15-0 win to clinch.

Boys Soccer – Jefferson Dragons
The Dragons move on to the Elite 8 – the only team in our area that plays in GHSA to do so. Jefferson powered past NW Whitfield on the road with a 3-1 victory to reach the Quarterfinals.

Girls Soccer – Dawson County Lady Tigers & Union County Lady Panthers
As one of four local teams to reach the Quarterfinals, perhaps the most impressive wins came for Dawson and Union. Dawson County beat 3-seeded Harlem 3-2 to advance in a tight battle. The Lady Tigers earned the upset as the 14-seed. Union County, a 14-seed as well, also beat a 3-seed all the way down at Thomson. It was a dominant showing with a 6-0 final for the Lady Panthers.

Boys Tennis – Banks County Leopards
The Leopards as the 13-seed, dropped Putnam County 5-0 in a powerful performance to reach the Quarterfinals of the 1A DI bracket.

Girls Tennis – Tallulah Falls Lady Indians
The Lady Indians had virtually no problems getting past the first and second round of the GIAA State Tournament, even taking down the #2-ranked team in Brookstone. Jaede-Lee Daniel-Joseph and Azaria Junaid were fantastic, and the Lady Indians earned a spot in the State Championship match, slated for May 5.

Boys Track & Field – Union County Panthers
The Union County Panthers won the Region Championship, and took the top spot in eight different events. Holden Payne was responsible for three individually, as the distance runner took the 800/1600/3200, and was also on one of the two relays that won gold.

Track & Field – Tallulah Falls
The Lady Indians posted a 3rd-place finish in the GIAA State Championship meet, with Joanna Miller securing a pair of individual state titles. The Indians also came in 6th, and one of the relay teams (4×400) won gold.

Golf – Banks County Lady Leopards
The Lady Leopards won back-to-back area titles, and Tenley Maney was the individual champion for Banks. Morgan Sparks was near the top as well.
