Baseball Round One Scores

7 of our 12 local baseball teams made preseason goals a reality by making the state tournament. Here are the Round One GHSA scores (check back for updates).

CLASS 5A

#1 Cartersville 2, #4 Jefferson Boys 0

The Dragons fell 2 games to none to 1-seeded and nationally-ranked Cartersville. Jefferson fell 11-0 in the first game and 2-0 in the finale. This ends Jefferson’s season.

CLASS 3A

#1 Franklin County 2, #4 Dawson County 1

The Tigers clawed out a 4-0 win and dropped a 2-1 contest to split the series. The Lions and Tigers will battle in a winner-take-all game 3 on Tuesday. In the finale, Dawson County actually held a brief 1-0 lead. Franklin County took the lead in the 3rd and added on until the 8-1 final score. This ends Dawson’s season.

#2 Oconee County 2, #3 Lumpkin County 0

The Indians lost a heart-breaker in an 8-7 loss at Oconee County in game one, then fell 10-3 in game 2 to end the series. This marks the end of the season for Lumpkin County.

CLASS 2A

#3 Rockmart 2, #2 Banks County 0

The Leopards fell in heartbreaking fashion with a 4-3 loss followed by a 3-1 loss. That ends Banks County’s season in the first round.

CLASS 1A DI

#2 Darlington 2, #3 Tallulah Falls 0

The Indians were no-hit in the opening game, a 10-0 loss. TFS actually had a no-hitter going into the fourth until Darlington struck for 9 runs. Darlington won 11-0 in the second game to clinch the series.

#4 Commerce 2, #1 Pepperell 0

Commerce might be clicking at the perfect time. The Tigers earned an 8-2 win in the opener before a 9-5 victory in game two over Pepperell to advance to the Sweet 16.

CLASS 1A DII

#2 Towns County 2, #3 Mt. Zion 0

The Indians swept past Mt. Zion to reach the Sweet 16. A 13-3 win was followed by a 10-1 victory, as the offense exploded.
