Smith, Richie claim Athlete of the Week awards

The BLITZ Fan Vote for Track & Field Athlete of the Week was Hayden Smith (Rabun County) after taking 3,219 of the 4,348 total votes. BLITZ then named Corey Richie (Stephens County) as Co-POW.

HAYDEN SMITH – RABUN COUNTY

Rabun County’s Hayden Smith had a solid performance last week in a Commerce meet. The junior was 8th in the 100, but was 1st in the 400 with a 52.46. He also had a school record split as part of the 4×400 relay, posting a team time of 3:36.61, good for 1st place. This is Smith’s first POW award.

COREY RICHIE – STEPHENS COUNTY

Corey Richie is a track and field cheat code for the Indians. The senior multi-sport star (football, basketball, track) had a monster week in which he placed 1st in the Triple Jump with a 43-8 PR, 1st in the Long Jump with a 20-7.5 PR, 3rd in the 200 with a 23.6 PR, and was 1st in the 4×200 Relay with a 1:33.29. He is a state top-50 in the Triple Jump, and is heating up with 6 PRs over the last 2 meets, claiming 5 golds and a bronze. This is Richie’s first POW award.
