Swager, Shirley claim Athlete of the Week awards
The BLITZ Fan Vote for Track & Field Athlete of the Week was Mike Swager (Rabun County) after taking 3,618 of the 8,129 total votes. BLITZ then named Julianne Shirley (Tallulah Falls) as Co-POW.
MIKE SWAGER – RABUN COUNTY
Thrower Mike Swager went from football to basketball to track and field. It’s working out, as the senior put up PRs last week for Rabun County in his throwing events. He eclipsed his previous best in the Discus by over 17 feet, putting up a 124-11. In the Shot Put, he recorded a 40-5 for a PR there as well. This is Swager’s first POW award.

JULIANNE SHIRLEY – TALLULAH FALLS
Tallulah Falls has a great athlete in Julianne Shirley. The junior showed out at the Battle of Blue Ridge last week at Habersham Central, posting 3 1st-place finishes. She was 1st in the 400 with a 60.73, 1st in the 200 (27.27 – PR), and 1st in the 4×400 Relay as the anchor. She also placed 2nd in the High Jump. This is Shirley’s second POW award.
