Sister see, sister does. Madison Dampier took turns breaking records that her older sister set last year at Tallulah Falls. When Montgomery Dampier (now swimming at Georgia Southern) broke a school record, Madison would almost always be right there to eclipse it or be on her heels. Montgomery won Swimmer of the Year last year as a senior, and Madison, now a sophomore, has done the same.

Madison Dampier won some hardware! The sophomore took the State Championship by storm with a title in the 100 Fly (56.68) and a Runner-Up finish in the 200 IM (2:08.54). She was also 5th in the 400 Free Relay (3:51.98) and 6th in the 200 Medley Relay (23:01.62).

Voting included our 17-person panel made up of sports reporters, writers, video producers, former coaches, players, GHSA officials, and sports experts. The voting is Heisman-style, with the following points system:
1st place votes: 5 pts; 2nd: 3 pts; 3rd: 2 pts; 4th: 1 pts; 5th-6th: 0.5 pts; 7th-8th 0.25 pts

Madison Dampier was a near unanimous choice for Swimmer of the Year. She had only 2 votes outside #1, both being 3rd-place votes. She had 15 1st-place tallies, and Aubree-Clare Alewine-Flores had the other 2. Katherine Dunagan scored higher because of her weighted average. She had 12 2nd-place votes while Flores had only 5.

It’s just the third-ever BLITZ Girls Swimmer of the Year award, and it goes to Madison Dampier. She follows in her sister’s footsteps, but as the first underclassman to win it, she’ll have a chance to be the first repeat winner.
