Boys State Tournament Round 1 Results

With 9 boys teams in the postseason, here are the results for Round One. The only team to play Tuesday was Rabun County, who clinched a spot in the Sweet 16.

CLASS 6A

#2 Pope 63, #3 Habersham Central 56

The Raiders (17-11) came up just a bit short in a 63-56 loss on the road to Pope. Bryce Pittman in his final game for Hab Central scored 17, while Cole Gary had 14. JoJo McCurry had 11 and Brannon Gaines 10 in the loss. The season ends for the Raiders.

CLASS 5A

#3 Cass 68, #2 Jefferson 49

The Dragons (10-18) fell in a 68-49 game against Cass at home, thus ending Jefferson’s season.

CLASS 3A

#4 Hebron Christian 74, #1 White County 55

The Warriors (17-12) fell in a shocking 74-55 game at home to 4-seed Hebron Christian. White County got 28 points from Jadon Yeh in his final game for the Warriors. White County trailed nearly the entire game, going down 22-13 after the first, 36-23 at the half, and 52-38 going into the fourth.

Stephens County (14-13) ends its season with a tough home loss to Wesleyan. SCORE MISSING

CLASS 2A

#2 Union County 85, #3 Murray County 63

Union County (19-9) earned a blowout home win of 85-63 to advance to the Sweet 16! Hayden Hughes led with 23 points, while Eli Underwood scored 20. Maddox Young had 14, Jude Ellis 13, and Houston Henry 12.

#2 North Murray 72, #3 Banks County 61

The Leopards (19-10) fell in a tough 72-61 contest to end Banks County’s season on the road at North Murray.

CLASS 1A DI

#2 Rabun County 54, #3 Trion 42

The Wildcats (16-11) marched on to the Sweet 16 for a third straight season with a 54-42 win over Trion. Willie Goodwyn couldn’t be contained, as he poured in 25 points and hauled in 17 rebounds and had 2 blocks. Huey Blalock collected 9 points and 5 boards and dished out 4 assists. Jayton Henry had 10 points, Cooper Welch 6, and Jack Hood 4.

#2 Chattooga 60, #3 Tallulah Falls 57

Tallulah Falls (17-10) nearly came up with an upset win at Chattooga, falling 60-57. The Indians held a little lead late in the third, and continued to be right there within striking distance. Anfernee Hanna had 22 points in his final high school game, and Vlad Popescu had 19.

CLASS 1A DII

#1 Greenforest Christian 80, #4 Towns County 37

The Indians went to #1-ranked Greenforest and were on the wrong side of a lopsided 80-37 affair. Towns County ends its season at 17-11 overall.
